Welcome to Tom Coyote

I am not looking at anything bad on your log. Lets run the trial of AVG Anti Spyware and see if it picks anything up.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Reboot normally and run this system cleaner.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Post the AVG log and a new HJT log please
hi ken, thanks for the reply! but im relieved to know nothing bad is on my log. oh btw, i have the paid version of AVG anti spyware, because i paid for ewido spyware before. anyway, i did a scan previously, and nothing came up…however i did not manage to save the log. do i have to re-do it? my system seems to running fine now. oh, on another note, i have my home PC, which is running awefully slow, hopefully something can be done. can i seek your help here and place its HJT log on here, or do i have to start another thread?
loathed2 :D

If you feel that AVG found nothing , then thats fine, but sometimes even the little entries that it finds can point to something bad. So I will leave it up to you to run it again or not.

I see some posts of yours , one back in August that you never replied back to.
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?show…c=68616&hl=

Also this one that we never replied to, is this the one your concerned about
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?show…c=70293&hl=

This one too
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?show…c=72882&hl=

If these are all the same computer, let me know and I can merge them together or else I will just close them. You can go ahead and post the HJT log for the computer you want me to look at in this thread.

Ken :D
thanks for the prompt reply ken, appreciate it.

anyway, those threads are problems which have already been fixed i guess. thanks for asking anyway, you may close them.

anyway this is the home PC im talking about…it seems to be running slower than usual. heres the HJT log.

Thanks again!
This one does have some problems Trojan wise.

Some info for you.

AVG Free is about or has discontinued there free version of Anti Virus software so you may have to upgrade to the paid version or uninstall it and go with another program.

Flashget Download Manager is your call to remove or keep, here is info on it so you can make up your own mind.

FlashGet download manager - the trial bundles Cydoor adware, but when you register the ads disappear

This adware acts as a Browser Helper Object (BHO), which may occasionally cause the Internet Explorer to crash.

BHOs are programs installed unknowingly on affected systems. They are designed to run automatically every system startup to monitor user activity.

The root of your problem is a being infected by a worm that is part of the SDBot family, this is what we need to do.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
  • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the script.
  • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Only fix these if you uninstalled Flashget
O2 - BHO: IeCatch2 Class - {A5366673-E8CA-11D3-9CD9-0090271D075B} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: FlashGet Bar - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - C:\PROGRA~1\FLASHGET\fgiebar.dll

These are related to the SDBot worm and have to go

msngms.exe

Post the SDFix log and a new HJT log.

The rest of your log looks fine  How are things running now??
hi ken, once again, done as you've instructed…system seems to be running better. anything else i need to do? oh, is the msngms.exe file still on my system?
Lets make sure its gone.

Download Pocket Killbox to your desktop, unzip it to a folder that you can find

Highlight the file with the complete path inside the Quote Box and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msngms.exe

  • Open Pocket Killbox
  • Go to File > Paste from clipboard
  • Set it to Delete on Reboot
  • Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
  • If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
  • Make sure Single File is selected
  • Click on the Red circle with the white X
  • It will ask you to confirm the deletion…Say yes
  • It will ask you to reboot, say yes
If you get a message "pending operations has been stopped by external process!" then reboot the computer manually.

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Java website and download and install the update.
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Lets run the free online scan from Panda, it may not fix anyting but will give us an extensive log to view to see if any of this garbage is still present.

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.

1. Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
2. A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
3. Enter your Country
4. Enter your State/Province
5. Enter your e-mail address and click send
6. Select either Home User or Company
7. Click the big Scan Now button
8. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
9. It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
Since you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
10. Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
11. Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
Save the log someplace.
12. reboot
13. Post Panda scan results in your next reply

Post the Panda report and a new HJT log and lets hope its all gone.
hi ken, sorry for the late reply…but i went to bed last night.

i did the killbox step, however, when i tried to do the panda scan online, the thing wouldnt load after i pressed on the huge "scan your PC" button. Also, you instructed me to upgrade my Java to JRE5, however, i installed JRE6 seeing that its the latest, is that okay?

anyway, here is my HJT log.

My bad on the Java update…I have been so busy that I fell behind myself. You are correct.

Panda is funny, some systems it runs fine and others there is a problem, your log looks fine and as long as you feel all is ok, we will leave it at that.

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.
  • Tutorial for System Restore <– Do this first to prevent yourself from being reinfected.
  • Tom Coyote
  • TonyKlein CastleCops
  • Grinler BleepingComputer
  • Geeks To Go
  • Dslreports

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you. :D
