I've tried removing those secure32.html items with hijack this but they just keep reappearing. This is truly disheartening. Any and all help will be gratefully appreciated.
Hi, Welcome to TomCoyote!

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files without your knowledge.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever be trusted again. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.
Thank you for taking the time to help me out with this. Looks like I'll be able to talk the wife into letting me get that new hard drive after all………heavy sigh. I do have a couple of questions though. 1. Will my other machine be compromised as well? The infected pc was connected to a router. And 2. Would it be safe to ftp items such as zipped php scripts and photos to my other machine via the router connection? Thank you again for your time and help.
Please disregard question #2 on my previous post as I have written off all of the data on my old hard drive as lost to a lesson learned. However I am still wondering if my other pc might be compromised because it was connected to the same router as the infected pc. Thank you again so much for whoever might help me and especially for this website for giving the little guy a chance in this crazy pc world.
You have a few backdoors in your system and they can log usernames, passwords etc.. If someone took hold of your computer, it is possible if your router wasn't secure ( left defaut logins and passwords) then they could gain access to your machine.. It would be best if you post a HijackThis log taken from your other computer just to check…
The router was setup with non-default username and pass.

New log looks great!

Although Windows Xp comes with a firewall, you should not rely on it because the Windows Firewall can only filter incoming data; outgoing traffic is not controlled, meaning that malware/viruses that are present in your computer can access the internet with no restrictions. There are several other Firewall that can protect you better by filtering incoming and outgoing data. Make sure you get only one of these.

Close your browsers and all open windows except for HijackThis, then click "Fix checked".

Reboot.

That infection is very minor…Otherwise, it looks really great! Make sure you grab a firewall for it too for extra protection..
Any suggestions for a good firewall? Nevermind…..I see that you did post a couple of suggestions. Thank you again for your time and effort.
