DEAR MEMBERS:

I am hoping someone can help and advise what items listed in the HiJackThis Logfile are possible Webpage Hijackers and need to be deleted.

THANKS TO ANYONE THAT CAN HELP!!

Symptoms:
- Not able to access certain websites that I was able to access before.
- www.yahoo.com set as homepage in IE Properties, but actually goes to MSN when opening IE.
- Not able to change webpage and searchpage addresses in SpywareBlaster (previously I had all web/search pages default to Yahoo).
- Slow accessing the internet.

Think I might have "accepted" a change to Kernel when getting Windows update. Not sure what a Kernel is and if this is causing the issue. Thought the Kernel was with Micrsoft update, but maybe noy.

Did a complete system check with multiple Adware / Spyware programs (Adaware, Spybot, Webroot Spyware Sweeper, Bazooka Blaster, etc). No issues were found.

Be sure to keep SunJava, updated

In Add/Remove programs click on these and press *remove* if listed:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 - 97.99Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2 - 143.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 - 144.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5- 151.00Mb
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04 - 130.00Mb
Or any other outdated J2SE

It is important to remove older versions as these are the ones with the holes in them. You will be surprised when you go to add/remove to see all of the versions sitting there.

Download Newest >>>> http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed >>>>

If this doesnt work removing IE7 might be necessary
Little Eagle, I did everythying you said. There was only 1 version of J2SE installed on my machine - Environment 5.0 Update 6. No other versions were installed, which makes sense as this HP computer is only 2 months old. I did reinstall (without uninstalling) the current version of J2SE through the Add/Remove Programs feature. Helped slightly - now I have constant pop-ups from Spybot IE resident asking if I want to change the registry for IE Search. Looks like there is a conflict between 2 programs going on as it is constant back and forth with trying to change the registry. Sounds like the only option is to uninstall IE 7.0. When I looked at Add/Remove IE 7.0 it said that the last time it was used was 11/24/06, which is not correct - I use it everyday. If I uninstall IE 7.0, how do I reinstall with then not having internet access to be able to get to the Microsoft home page? I already have recovery discs created from when I first got the computer - would I use these? Thanks for your help.
First, take a manual restore point, in case you need to go back again and make sure your system drive backups are up to date. Go to Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to IE7, select it and click "remove". Confirm at the relevant prompts and IE7 will be removed and IE6 will automatically be re-installed. The only time I've seen this not work, is when someone has been cleaning up their hard disk and has removed all the update files from the Windows folder to save disk space or whatever. Now go to Windows Update and install any patches to IE6 that you have missed while you had IE7 installed and you are good to go.
Little Eagle,

I removed IE7 and IE6 automatically installed as you said it would. I installed the update for IE6. My homepage has now automatically been changed from MSN to AOL. I try changing it to Yahoo and it will not take (in the IE properties). Tried to delete the suspected files in HiJackThis again and the HiJack File keeps overriding. I denied the attempted changes in my homepage from Yahoo when the notice pops up from Webroot Spy Sweeper. Spybot Resident continually prompts me to change the Search Page and Home page settings to the registry (which I keep on denying).

Here is the log from Spybot:

Lastly, installed the update to IE7 from IE6, but that did not help either. Actually thought that was what you wanted me to do, but realized that you never stated to reinstall IE7. Deleted IE7 and still have the same problems.

Any ideas on what else to do?

Thanks for all your help and patience……
You will need to disable SpySweeper until we are done.
To do this open SpySweeper click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck 'automaticly restore default without notifiction".

We will need to disable TeaTimer
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following,

Thanks for the quick response Little Eagle…..

We are almost there…..

Still have a few buggers that don't want to leave and they are still causing havoc:

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'
It will not appear to have done anything, thats ok.

***Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Little Eagle,

Did everything you said….it helped, but still have the HiJack. HiJackThis did not remove the last item. I was able to change all but one of the browser pages in SpywareBlaster.

Still have TeaTimer and SpySweeper turned off. I ran AdAware and a-squared free last night and found a Trojan and a Trace Cookie that were not showing up before. Deleted them.

Any more thoughts?

Thanks.

Little Eagle,

Couldn't find http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&a…&pf=desktop at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main. Actually was in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main. Took care of the AOL/hp thing, but now get the dreaded about:blank and can't get rid of it in the IE properties homepage.

Also deleted a few other webpage listing in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main registries. No luck on getting rid of the about:blank.

After getting rid of the suspected registry files IE6 would not open (was also not listed in add/remove). Had to get the Windows update and reinstall IE7. Not sure if I need to redo the deleting of IE7 to go back to IE6 again?

Here is current HJT Logfile:

Thanks for all your help!!
Navicate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main on start page right click and change the URL you would like. Also can be done on HKCU
I think I already tried doing that early this morning and had the same result - basically checked all IE registry files and changed anything having to do with search or webpage that had an incorrect URL setting and changed to www.yahoo.com. I'll let you know tonight when I get home and take a look at it. Thanks for everything……… :)
