Hello Charlie :D

Welcome to Tom Coyote . Sorry about the delay in responding but we are as most times just overwhelmed with logs.

I am not looking at anything earthshattering on your log. Just a few things to fix.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

These are not from Yahoo

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi…arch.yahoo.com/

If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < – After it scans your system, when you click on the Fix button and it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

Go to Start> All Programs> Assessories > System Tools> Disk Defragmenter. This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Java website and download and install the update.
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Post back with a new HJT log as your current one is a little old and let me know if any of this helped at all.
Done as asked Ken545, many thanks for the help.

Your log looks fine  Any problems you think may be malware or virus related as far as pop up ads and such?? Has what you have done helped any??
Nothing major happening now, seems to be running fine apart from the odd slow start up when firing Windows up? Yor help much appreciated.
007geezer :D

I am listing most of the items in your HJT log from the 04 entries, these are all programs that load when windows starts. You have more than your share of loading programs and I am sure this is why you have a slow startup. I am not suggesting that you remove them all, this is just for your information. The way to do it is to go to each of those programs and look under preferences to see if they can be disabled on Startup. I am listing what they are for and you can decide yourself what you need and don't need. I would do one at a time and make sure there are no problems.

Remember that this list is for your information on what is starting up when windows starts, you need to look them over carefully and disable the ones you dont think you need. Disable them at your own risk.

What you need to do also is go to your Add-Remove programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any programs that you no longer use and have no intent of ever using. You will be surprised how this will clean up your system.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
System Tray icon used to change display settings, change the clock rate and memory speed for nVidia based graphics cards. This is unnecessary since you can easily configure these settings the way you want them in the Display Properties and not have to mess with them again. Also disable the "NVIDIA Driver Helper Service" if enabled as it can cause this entry to be re-enabled on re-boot (note that this service can also cause extreme shutdown delays if enabled - see here)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Motive SmartBridge] C:\PROGRA~1\BTHOME~1\Help\SMARTB~1\BTHelpNotifier.exe
System tray icon for the Virtual Assistant from BT Broadband, used to communicate internet problems via the network rather than telephone. Available via desktop shortcut or Start -> Programs - not required

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [btbb_wcm_McciTrayApp] C:\Program Files\btbb_wcm\McciTrayApp.exe
Related to Motive_Communications Provides tray access to Motive's Broadband 2.0 configuration and repair utility. Note: Located in C:\Program Files\btbb_wcm\

Can be started manually
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [YBrowser] C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\browser\ybrwicon.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [YOP] C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\YOP\yop.exe /autostart
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Look these over
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WINCINEMAMGR] "C:\Program Files\InterVideo\Common\Bin\WinCinemaMgr.exe"
WinCinema_Manager is needed when using the WinDVD Remote Control for WinDVD from Intervideo. Available via Start -> Programs

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VirtualDrive] "C:\Program Files\FarStone\VirtualDrive\VDTask.exe" /AutoRestore
VirtualDrive from Farstone - virtual CD drive emulator. Available via Start -> Programs

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RAMDrive] "C:\Program Files\FarStone\VirtualDrive\VHD\RDTask.exe" /AutoRestore

Virtual Hard Drive (Ram Drive) takes a portion of your system memory (RAM) and uses it to simulate a hard disk drive. For more information see FarStone

Do you need this
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [GameFace Messenger] C:\Program Files\GameFace Messenger\GameFace.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Photo Downloader] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter Edition\3.0\Apps\apdproxy.exe"

Associated with "Nero Burning Rom" CD writing software. Checks for driver issues
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\NeroCheck.exe

Can be started manually

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jusched.exe"

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe

CTFMon is involved with the language/alternative input services in Office XP. CTFMON.exe will continue to put itself back into MSConfig when you run the Office XP apps as long as the Text Services and Speech applets in the Control Panel are enabled. Not required if you don\'t need these features. For more info on ctfmon See_Here ;en-us;282599 . CTFMON can be disabled from Control Panel, Text & Speech Services. NOTE: The file will always be located in the System32 folder. If it is located elsewhere, it will likely be a worm or trojan!

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
