Welcome to Tom Coyote . Sorry about the delay in responding but we are as most times just overwhelmed with logs.

Please reply to this thread only by using the Add-Reply button and not start a New Topic or your posts will be all over the forum and we won't be able to keep track of you.

You have been hit by the Sony Rootkit fiasco, there are law suits out about this I believe. Sony has since stopped installing that software on there CDs. It's kind of catch 22, its not active as I can see but is still choking your computer, if you remove it, any Sony CDs will quit playing.

Here is info about it along with some removal instructions.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic34904.html

The rest of your log looks fine, I believe this is the culprit.
It's very possible that it has disabled it.

First read this.

Then this one,

Scroll down and read this.

Removing it may easily result in removal of access to the CD drive as well. I am aware of reports that indicate removal attempts have resulted in the drive letter disappearing altogether, and no means of getting Windows to recognize the drive again, even in the BIOS. Again, you must remember that installation of this root kit has modified the operating system at the root level.

There is a class action lawsuit going on for this

If you want to remove it , follow the instructions in my previous post.

You can try disabling it like this.

Plug and Play Device Manager ($sys$DRMServer) <– Look for this, not sure how its listed , there is a Plug and Play <– leave this one alone.
  • Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
  • Scroll down to xxxxxxxxxx <–Plug and Play Device Manager ($sys$DRMServer)
  • Double Click that service to open it.
  • Click on Stop Service.
  • Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
  • OK your way out of the program.
If it causes you problems, just reenable it. You may want to do a search on the Sony website for uninstall instructions.
I followed the first link you gave me from bleeping computer. I looked in the services and i did have the XCP Cd Proxy but when I did this step 5. Delete C:\%WinDir%\system32\$sys$filesystem\aries.sys (Replace %WinDir% with the directory that Windows is installed on your computer) i did not have the aries.sys file. The computer is the same also after running sophos tool.
This may show the file C:\%WinDir%\system32\$sys$filesystem\aries.sys

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

This is right from the Sony Site, scroll down towards to bottom and there is a download link for the tool to remove it.

The XCP software tool is available for download here
