Hi,
Whenevr I turn my PC on. 'My Documents' opens by itself. and then my antivirus (McAfee) detects and blocks 2 exploited applicaions:

Path Name - C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe::GetProcAddress
Detected As - bo:heap
State - Blocked by Buffer Overflow protection

Path Name - C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe::ReadFile
Detected As - bo:heap
State - Blocked by Buffer Overflow protection

I've scanned my pc many times using McAfee and Windows Defender. I used diskkeeper for my drive. I thought there was a problem with the registry and used RegCure and Advanced System Optimizer as well.
None of the above mentioned softwares worked. :(

here is my HJT Log. Can someone plz help me.

Hi shan92and welcome to Tom Coyote forums

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!
dan
Hi shan92

OK, the first thing I need you to do is as follows your version is out of date

Download a copy of HJTsetup.exe from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click HJTsetup.exe to begin installation.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the prompts from there.
  • When HJT opens, click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button.
  • When HJT has finished scanning, a window entitled "hijackthis.log" will open - when you close this window the log will be saved into the hijackthis folder.
  • Copy and paste this into your next reply.

Thanks dan

Hi shan92

Do a Windows search to get the path of this file KLayMgr.exe (its most likely in system32)
Search and delete files
We need to do a search now.Go to
  • Start
  • Search
  • For Files and Folders
  • Expand Search Options, check Advanced Options, check Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search Subfolders.
  • Paste this into the Search for files and folders named box:
  • KLayMgr.exe <=====This file when found will reveal the full file path, can you make a note of it, because I need the full file path, so that were able to up load to jotti's.

Submit a file to Jotti
Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, browse and find the file click open which will place it in the field.
< Insert Full path here! KLayMgr.exe >

Then hit Submit
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy the result and post it here in this thread.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:

Regards dan ;)
Hi dan12, Ive cleared my system restore and downloaded and installed all the important softwares you told me to. I already use Ad-aware and mozilla firefox. And I scanned my computer using Ad-aware before starting this topic and it didnot detect any virus(It was updated). Thanks a LOT for all your help, dan12. I've always managed to remove viruses frm my computer(using Mcafee) but this time, I couldnot. I really trusted Mcafee and now I know it isnt tht good. Once again thx for helping me out. :) :wavey:
just a few questions… … … … The antivirus u told me to download 'NoLop'. Does it only remove a virus called Lop or it removes all types of viruses??? And secondly, can u tell me a little abt the virus tht my computer was infected with. Was it coz of the perfect keylogger?
Hello again dan12. I just wanted to ask. Can I turn the resident shield and automatic updates of the AVG on? And should I uninstall McAfee or should I keep it?
Hi shan92

I just wanted to ask. Can I turn the resident shield and automatic updates of the AVG on?

Yes!

The Infection you had was "Lop" The infection often comes together with Messenger Plus, the tool I used is not an antivirus program it's used specifically for this infection, No lop deals with the scheduled tasks the infection places on the machine also.

I use avast ! and zone alarm firewall. However, if I were picking out a paid one, I would have to say Kaspersky. Nod32 would be my second choice.
I would not run Norton or McAfee if they gave me free copies… they are not what they used to be.
In my view, I don't think it is so much a case of the paid AVs having more functionality than the free AVs as it is a case of how fast the definitions for new infections are available. Kaspersky is usually extremely quick in bringing out definitions for new infections and has excellent heuristics as well.
Hope that has helped some.
dan
