Hi Bingodog11 - Welcome to TomCoyote. :)

SmitFraudFix (by S!Ri)
  • Please download SmitFraudFix from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click on Smitfraud.exe - this will create a SmitfraudFix folder.
  • Open the folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
  • Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter - a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Do not run any of the other options at this stage.

Please copy/paste the content of the report (c:\rapport.txt) into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a 'RiskTool'; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between 'good' and 'malicious' use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi.

You are running HijackThis from your desktop. We need to move it into its own folder so that the backups will be kept safe. Please right-click anywhere on your desktop, select New and then Folder. Rename the folder HJT and then move your copy of HijackThis into the folder.

Next, I need you to download a couple of programs.

—————————————————————–

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune © from here : http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1
This is a stand-alone program that does not need to be installed. Save it to a convenient location and make a shortcut on your desktop. Using this program will remove temporary files, temporary internet files and cookies from your system, which will mean that any scans will run faster.

Do not use it yet.

—————————————————————-

AVG Anti-Spyware:

If you already have this program installed, please update it as detailed below.

Please note that you must uninstall all versions of Ewido anti-spyware before installing this program.

Download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware from here and install it. When the program has been installed, and you click the Finish button, AVG Anti-Spyware will open. Do not run a scan yet.

If the program does not automatically update itself during installation, or you are unsure whether it has done so, please do the following:
  • Click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button.
  • The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.
You will need to change the following settings:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is… click active. This should now change to inactive.
  • Click the Update icon and untick the automatic update option.
  • Click the Scanner icon at the top and then click the Settings Tab.
  • Under How to act? click Recommended actions and select Quarantine from the menu.
You can now close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do not scan yet.

—————————————————————

You need to reboot your computer in Safe Mode for the next step. It would be a good idea for you to print these instructions, as you will not have access to the internet.

Important: If you have an 'always on' connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Continually tap the F8 button as your computer is booting a menu appears.
  • Use up-arrow key to select Safe Mode and press Enter.
————————————————————-

Open the SmitFraudFix folder on your desktop and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press 'Enter' to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : 'Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?'; answer 'Yes' by typing Y and press 'Enter' in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer 'Yes' by typing Y and press 'Enter'.

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt.

Reboot into Safe Mode (as above).

————————————————————

Run ATF Cleaner by Atribune ©:
  • Double-click the shortcut on your desktop to run the program.
  • Under Main, choose Select All
  • Untick Prefetch
  • Click Empty Selected
  • If you use Firefox browser,
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All
    • Click on Empty Selected
    • NOTE: If you would like to keep any saved passwords, please untick that option.
  • Click Exit to close.
  • If you use Opera browser,
    • Click Opera at the top and choose Select All
    • Click on Empty Selected
    • NOTE: If you would like to keep any saved passwords, please untick that option.
  • Click Exit to close.
—————————————————-

Close all open windows and then start AVG Anti-Spyware.
  • Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
  • Click on the Settings tab.
    • Under How to act? - make sure that Quarantine is selected.
    • Under How to scan? - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Possibly unwanted software - All checkboxes should be ticked.
    • Under Reports - Select Automatically generate report after every scan and uncheck Only if threats were found.
    • Under What to scan? - Select Scan every file.
  • Click on the Scan tab.
  • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
  • Let the program scan your computer.
  • When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below:
    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine
    • Important: Click on the Apply all Actions button (*** This must done before saving the report ***)
    • When the program has finished, it will display the message All actions have been applied.
    • Then click the Save Scan Report button.
    • Click the Save Report as button.
    • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Right-click the AVG Tray Icon and select Exit.
Reboot in Normal Mode.

————————————————————

Open the SmitFraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter.
Answer Yes to the question 'Restore Trusted Zone ?' by typing Y and hit Enter.

———————————————————–

Please post, as a reply to this thread:
  • The SmitFraudFix report (c:\rapport.txt)
  • The AVG Anti-Spyware report
  • A new HijackThis log
Ok.. I got to the part where I reboot my computer into safe mode. And i did that. got to the desktop. but the following items were not there. SmitFraudFix ATF Cleaner I think its becuase there are two seperate Computer log-in files. Theres my family. (which is first.) then there is Me. (i am second) When I go to safe mode it asked me to go what Computer log-in I want to go in. Admistation or Family. Mine doesn't show up. So what do I do? My guess could be totally wrong. So what do you think it could be that isn't showing the desktop items I need. Please Help. and thank you.
The easiest way would be to delete SmitFraudFix from your desktop (no need to delete that version of ATF Cleaner) and log in as your family account and then download ATF Cleaner and SmitFraudFix again to that desktop. Then do the Safe Mode part logged in as your family. You will need to log in as yourself to run the HijackThis log in Normal Mode at the end.

Let me know if you have any problems.
Ok cool. that worked here are the reports.

Hi Bingodog11.

That's looking a lot better. :)

You do not appear to have moved HijackThis from its location on your desktop. As I stated in my previous post, it's important that it is in its own folder in order to keep the backups safe. The easiest way to do this, so that it will be available to all users, will be to download a version which will install it in its own folder and put a shortcut on your desktop.

First, delete the current copy of HijackThis on your desktop.

Next, please download HJTsetup.exe from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button.
  • It will scan and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Paste the log as a reply to this thread.
Do NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet.

—————————————————–

Disable AVG Anti-Spyware Resident Shield

Please check the following settings:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top.
  • Under Resident shield is… make sure that this shows as inactive or not available in the free version.
  • Change it, if necessary.
Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do not scan.

——————————————————

Run HijackThis and click Scan and then check (tick) the following, if present (don't worry if any are missing):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…/search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

Close down all programs, browsers and other open windows. Make sure that only the above items are checked and then click on Fix checked.

Reboot your computer (normal mode).

Kaspersky Online Scanner

I'd like you to run an online scan to make sure that we've got everything.

Using Internet Explorer, click on Kaspersky Online Scanner
  • You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click 'Yes'.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click 'Next'.
  • Now click on 'Scan Settings'
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: 'Extended' (If available, otherwise 'Standard')
    • Scan Options: 'Scan Archives' and 'Scan Mail Bases'
  • Click 'OK'
  • Now under 'Select a target to scan' select 'My Computer'
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete, it will display whether your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the 'Save as Text' button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Note: The Kaspersky online scanner is not yet fully compatible with IE7. You may get returned to a window without the Accept/Decline buttons after allowing the ActiveX control. The buttons are there - you just can't see them! Click on the zoom button (bottom, right of the window) and change it from 100% to 75%. You should now see the buttons. Reset to 100% once the license has been accepted.

Please post, as a reply to this thread:
  • The Kaspersky report
  • A new HijackThis log
Hi. It's been a few days since I posted. Are you having problems with the 'fix'? Please let me know whether you still want our help to clean your computer.
Im so sorry. I have been very busy the last 3 days. ok I did the whole hijackthis thing. but when i got to the internet explorer thing I opened it to the Kaspersky Online Scanner, it wouldn't show a activeX componet. so i didn't really know what to do. lol please help again. and thank you so much for constantly staying with me. :D
First, let's check some settings in Internet Explorer:
  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click on the Tools menu button (a cogwheel)
  • Select Internet Options
  • Click on the Security tab
  • Click on the Custom level button
  • Scroll down to Download signed ActiveX controls
  • Select Prompt (recommended) if not already selected
  • Click OK then OK again
—————————————————-

Now let's try Kaspersky again (I have clarified some of the instructions).

Using Internet Explorer, go to: http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
  • Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner
  • Click the Accept button
  • Follow the prompts to download and install the ActiveX component(s) and other software
    • If a yellow information bar appears at the top of the browser window, click on it and select Install ActiveX Control
    • If a message box appears, click on OK or Run as appropriate
  • Click Accept again (see the note below if using IE7)
  • Now click on the Save as… button:
  • Save the report to your desktop (Save as type: Text document (txt))
Note: The Kaspersky online scanner is not yet fully compatible with IE7. You may get returned to a window without the Accept/Decline buttons after allowing the ActiveX control. The buttons are there - you just can't see them! Click on the zoom button (bottom, right of the window) and change it from 100% to 75%. You should now see the buttons. Reset to 100% once the license has been accepted.

——————————————————

Please post, as a reply to this thread:
  • The Kaspersky report (if you are able to run it)
  • A new HijackThis log (please post this irrespective of whether, or not, you were able to run the Kaspersky scan
I don't understand that, but let's try a different scanner.

Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner

Note: This scanner is for Internet Explorer only.
  • Follow the instructions here for installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Click on the yellow information bar in IE7 and select Install ActiveX Control
  • Once the ActiveX installs, click Full System Scan
  • Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
  • The scan will take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  • When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
  • Click the Show Report button and Copy/Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Please post a new HijackThis log.
