Hi Feils and welcome to the forums.

I recommend you print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{41ABCA4C-727B-41CE-A487-D870DAA47BDF}: NameServer = 85.255.113.204,85.255.112.232
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{56616654-C887-4536-BDC8-5CD457911999}: NameServer = 85.255.113.204,85.255.112.232
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{80F72FAB-6E38-4CD7-B01D-6D32FD01BDB0}: NameServer = 85.255.113.204,85.255.112.232
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.204 85.255.112.232
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{41ABCA4C-727B-41CE-A487-D870DAA47BDF}: NameServer = 85.255.113.204,85.255.112.232
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.204 85.255.112.232

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new HijackThis log.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
The report.txt file:

As for the TCP/IP, it was already set to automatically obtain DNS address. I am still unable to access the Control Panel directly as Windows Explorer crashes. Thanks for the help so far and I look forward to hearing more.
OK Feils,

This file is likely to be the culprit here but let's make sure before we do anything.

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org, click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\KDBKO.EXE

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

If Jotti is too busy you can try these.

http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html
http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html

Also,
Even though your computer is set to obtain DNS servers automatically I would still like you to flush out the cache by doing this as instructed:
Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

If you have any problems let me know and post the results from that suspicious file.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Feils,

I'm still almost positive that file is a baddie but let's make sure before we do anything.

Please upload that file to http://www.uploadmalware.com

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\KDBKO.EXE

Please put the link to this topic and your contact information on the form so they can get back to you.

Let me know the results.

Regards,
Dave
Hi Feils,

An expert has posted back that the file is definitely bad. These items still need to be removed with HJT.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Still unable to access the Control Panel without a Explorer crash. Thanks so far.
Hi Feils,

A couple of things…

1. Were you able to delete the KDBKO.EXE file without any problems?
2.

Still unable to access the Control Panel without a Explorer crash. Thanks so far.

Are you getting a specific error message here? Please give a little more detail on exactly what happens when you attempt to open Control Panel.
3. Are you having any other issues with your computer? Again if so please give details.

Thanks,
Dave
Yes, it was deleted without any problem. And when I click on the Control Panel, I get the usual "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. After which I send the error report and everything is back to normal.
Hi Feils,

With some help from a couple of experts on these forums I have a couple more things to try to see if we can clear up that error. Keep in mind that error could be caused by almost anything…malware related, Windows related, ect…but let's try this: a Windows tool first and then a scanner.

Run the Windows SFC tool by following the instructions here:
http://www.compphix.com/windowsfileprotection.html

Download and Save blacklight to your desktop.
F-Secure Blacklight: https://europe.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
click > scan then > next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there…
There must be also a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
Post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Regards,
Dave
Nope, I am now in the process of doing some hardware upgrades and am starting a system from scratch. Sorry that I forgot to get back to you. Thanks for all your help. Feils
