Hello cpzspeeder,

SpyBot may be preventing the items from being fixed. If you disabled TeaTimer the last time, then uninstall SpyBot Search and Destroy.


Disable TeaTimer:
Please disable TeaTimer as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.To disable TeaTimer:
  • Run Spybot-S&D
  • Go to the Mode menu , and make sure "Advanced Mode " is selected
  • On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer " and OK any prompts
  • Restart your computer.
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable TeaTimer again.

Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:

Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Post (reply) with a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look first.
Then re-enable TeaTimer or install SpyBot Search & Destroy depending upon what you did previously. Please let me know.

thanks for the follow up… I did actually disable teatimer the first time through but as you said to be sure this time i uninstalled, rebooted, ran hijack this , deleted entries as you requested, rebooted again and reinstalled spybot/enable tea timer…

hi again, excellent. no that WhenUSave is bothering me. i'm not too sure where i picked that up from but i would very much like to get rid of it and if possible prevent it from appearing on my pc again in the future

Let's try the following:

STEP 1.
======
SpySweeper
Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)
  • If you are taken to the internet page, just close the page.
  • You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
    (This may take several minutes)
  • Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.
  • Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so immediately. This is a necessary step to kill the infection!
  • When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next
  • From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.
  • Exit SpySweeper
Please post(reply) with the SpySweeper log and a new hijackthis log.

Did you try to uninstall it through the Control Panel via the Add/Remove programs?

It can be uninstalled in the Control Panel with Add/Remove Programs and displays a prompt that can be somewhat confusing by asking if you want to keep the installation,rather than if you want to uninstall it. Most uninstallers ask for confirmation to uninstall.


Uninstall Manager

Let's see if we can find out what it got installed with.
  • Open HijackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on the Box that says "Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on the button "Save list"
  • Copy and paste the List from notepad into your reply.

once you asked me to give you the list from the uninstall manager it dawned on me what it could be. I am pretty sure File Sharing Revolution/whenusave was installed with kazaa lite. I hadn't used it in such a long time i forgot about it.

I asked you to delete the folder
C:\Program Files\FileSharingRevolution_WhenUSaveNow_Installer\


What happened when you tried to delete it. Did it delete and then regenerate? or did it never delete? Do you know?

What problems are you experiencing from the WhenUSave junk?

folder did not exist , nor was there any reference in add/remove

I uninstalled kazaa lite and also removed the kazaa lite folder from my c drive programs folder.
i used hijackthis to remove the entry below:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FileSharingRevolution_WhenUSaveNow_Installer] C:\Program Files\FileSharingRevolution_WhenUSaveNow_Installer\FileSharingRevolution_WhenUSaveNow_Installer.exe

after removing the entry with hijackthis and rebooting, the above entry no longer shows up in my latest hijackthis log posted above 3 posts up i think, POST #25

the type of problems i was having with whenusave was mostly with webpages and forums, when text is typed in and certain keywords typed it would automatically add a url for one of their sponsors products. That was the obvious problem with it, if there were other processes or things going on behind the scenes, i couldn't tell what they were but wanted to make sure i dind't have anything hindering my pc's performance.

How am I looking now ?
