Hello slowtogo,

Welcome to the Tomcoyote forum! I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

In order to help me help you, please observe the following while we work:
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!
  • Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts,
and it's important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed
  • Please reply to this thread, do not start another.

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly

Hello,
I am trying to learn how to work these forums, but I will try to follow instructions, to the letter.

I think I got it! Found and isolated a rootkit with F-Secure Blacklight.
Hello slowtogo,

Please stop trying to fix your system own your own that could have a very negative impact with us assisting you on cleaning this infection. Fixes have to done in a proper order for removal to work.
I need to know what rootkit was "isolated" by BlackLight.
Pease post that log here into this thread There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx stand for numbers). copy and paste this in next rely to this thread. Then run fix posted below.

First I need you to read the following:
Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two or more anti-virus programs running at the same time on the same system can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash. They can conflict with each other which leaves you open to infection.

Symantec AntiVirus and avast! Antivirus

If you have more than one antivirus program installed, you must narrow it down to only one. Please choose one that is currently capable of receiving updates of virus definitions. If you have an antivirus program that no longer has an active subscription to antivirus updates, it cannot protect your system from malware.

You must choose which one to uninstall.

—————————————————

So Please do the following:

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please disable Spybot S&D TeaTimer, as it may hinder(block) the removal of the infection. You can enable it after you're clean. To disable SpybotSD TeaTimer:
  • Open Spybot and click on Mode and check Advanced Mode
  • Check Yes to next window.
  • Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner.
  • Click on System Startup icon.
  • Uncheck Teatimer box.
  • Click Allow Change box.
———————————————

Please download FixWareout from one of these two links:

Hello slowtogo,

Please stop trying to fix your system own your own that could have a very negative impact with us assisting you on cleaning this infection. Fixes have to done in a proper order for removal to work.

You have a lot of infection files in your Symantec AntiVirus Quarantine.
Open your Symantec AntiVirus program and clear out(delete) Quarantine log.
Empty recycle bin
———————————————————————————–

This is next:
To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:
  • Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
  • Double-click on the My Computer icon (or click Start, then select My Computer)
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • After the new window appears select the View tab.
  • Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
  • Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.
—————————————————————————

If your are not a 100% sure this is a safe entry then it needs to be deleted. If you find out later that you need it and it is a clean website when you visit it you will just be ask to download the active X control again with no problem. I do not trust these sites alot of the sites are bundled with malware and infections.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):
O16 - DPF: {CD995117-98E5-4169-9920-6C12D4C0B548} (HGPlugin9USA Class) - http://gamedownload.ijjimax.com/gamedownlo…GPlugin9USA.cab <http://gamedownload.ijjimax.com/gamedownload/dist/hgstart/HGPlugin9USA.cab>

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

———————————————————————–

Use Explorer to navigate to and delete the following file (if it is present) just what is in red:

Files:
  • C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\KDKKXE~1.REN <<< ~1 representing unknown characters look for file starting with KDKKXE
If this file will not delete in normal mode reboot into safemode and try again.
——————————————————————————

Skip this part if file was deleted in normal mode
How to boot into safemode if needed.
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
—————————————————————————–

empty recycle bin
Now reboot

———————————————————————————-

Please post in next repy and let me know how your computer is running now:
New HJT log
Hello,
I followed today's instructions, file deleted normally, no problem. Here is todays HJT log. Do you think I am winning?

This is my normal post for when you are clear - which you now are - or seem to be. Please advise of any problems you still have :-

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.
You can find instructions on how to enable and re enable system restore here:
    Managing Windows Millennium System Restore
    or
    Windows XP System Restore Guide
re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus
  • Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
Computer Safety On line - Software Firewalls
  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware
  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware
  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:
Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware
  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Stand up and be Counted.

NOW is the time you can start to hit back at the people who infected you.
[external image: Posted Image]
Please take the time to go and complain - that forum has a topic for your infection which is Wareout please post as a reply, you do not need to register to do so (but you can if you wish). It will also have a list of other places you can go to to register your complaint, depending on the country you are resident in. Please read the topics and complain, it is only with such complaints to goverment or government agances that something will get done.

May your God go with you..
