Hi, I posted my HiJack This log a few months ago, and still no reply! :( So i have given up on that one as it is probably not a accurate picture of my current computer anyway. This is a new HiJack This log. Have had problems before, just want to make sure everything is still OK.

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

Only a few minor ones.

I suggest you do this:

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {206E52E0-D52E-11D4-AD54-0000E86C26F6} - C:\PROGRA~1\FRESHD~1\FRESHD~1\fdcatch.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [updateMgr] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AdobeUpdateManager.exe" AcRdB7_0_8 -reboot 1

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
OK. Did as you said. The new HiJack This log is as follows:

The computer does seem a little slow, but I assume it is because there is very little free space left on the hard drive. We scan with Ad Aware and Ewido, along with Norton, and usually nothing is found apart from cookies. However my brother tends to get on to all kinds websites to download movies etc. so I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if the computer was indeed infected.

Lauren
lets see if this will help speed it up.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

NOTE: To be extra safe you can choose to only remove the items in RED.
OK, did the things you said again, but the Registry Scan kept finding 9 entries. I restarted the computer and did the scan a few more times. It then kept finding the same 5 entries. So I repeated the restart to see if it would make a difference, but the same five returned:

Did the check of programs and everything seems to be working.
OK great. Its still slow, but seems faster then before :) Thankyou for your help. Glad to hear that my brothers habits have not damaged our computer (thus far). Is there any other things you can recommend that could improve our computer's performance?

=====================================================================

For IE 7 users.
Microsoft released a patch for Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) that will boost the brand-new browser's performance on some Web sites.

http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showtopic=73801

Patch:

1.Do you have unnecessary programs loading at startup?
a. Example: Quicktime / Real Player / GoogleToolbar Notifier
b. Always check the options in the program to see if there's a option to disable running at startup.

2.When was the last time you you cleaned out Temp files and cookies?

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

3.When was the last time you ran Disk Defragmenter?
Do this after cleaning Temp files and cookies.
Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Defragmenter

4. Are you running more then one Anti-Virus program?
