Hello Booberry,

Welcome to the Tomcoyote forum! I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

In order to help me help you, please observe the following while we work:
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!
  • Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts,
and it's important to follow the steps as listed including re-running scans as listed
  • Please reply to this thread, do not start another.

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly
Hello Booberry,

This is my log please tell me if you find anything wrong with it, I downloaded something yesterday and i got some viruses and stuff but as far as i know AVG got rid of them but you can never be to sure!

I see lines in your log of infections.
I have a question here did you knowingly install this program
WinGuardian?

A Commercial Key Logger is a program that captures and logs keystrokes as they are entered on the computer for the purpose of monitoring the user. The logged data, which may be encrypted, is saved or sent to the person who installed the key logger. These applications often run in stealth mode and are invisible to the user that is being monitored. Such key loggers are sold commercially and may be used legitimately if deployed by authorized administrators and disclosed to the persons being monitored, as in a business environment. The use of a key logger to monitor persons without their knowledge has been ruled illegal in at least one jurisdiction.
Elevated risks are typically installed without adequate notice and consent, and may make unwanted changes to your system, such as reconfiguring your browser's homepage and search settings. These risks may install advertising-related add-ons, including toolbars and search bars, or insert advertising-related components into the Winsock Layered Service Provider chain. These new add-ons and components may block or redirect your preferred network connections, and can negatively impact your computer's performance and stability. Elevated risks may also collect, transmit, and share potentially sensitive data without adequate notice and consent.

PartyPoker
This site/program has been placed on a list of IE Spyads restricted list, this basically means that it is recognised as an unsafe site. Bundled with malware.

I would advise you to go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall PartyPoker.

———————————————————-

Look thru list and uninstall these:

Add/Remove Programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following:

    PartyPoker
    WinGuardian
<<<< If you did not install knowingly remove.
You will need to reboot computer to complete uninstall.

———————————————————-

Download haxfix.exe
and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on haxfix.exe to install haxfix. (standard installation path is c:\program Files\haxfix)
  • Checkmark "Create a desktop icon"
  • Click "Next"
  • When the installation is completed, make sure that the checkmark "Launch HaxFix" is placed
  • Click "Finish"

A red "dos window" (dos box) will open with options:
1. Make logfile
2. Run auto fix
3. Run manual fix
E. Exit Haxfix
  • Select option 1. Make logfile by typing 1 and then pressing Enter
  • Haxfix will start scanning the computer. When it is finished a logfile will open: haxlog.txt > (c:\haxfix.txt)
  • Copy the contents of that logfile and paste it into this thread.
Important do not run any other option yet legit ones could be deleted I have to check log first.

Please post these logs in your next reply to this thread:

haxlog.txt

What type of Anti-virus program are you using Symantec/Norton or something else please let me know what you have installed?
If you have an antivirus program that no longer has an active subscription to antivirus updates, it cannot protect your system from malware.

  • There is the possibility to add a new key: Yes (type Y) or No (type N).
    Followed by this message:

Do you want to add a new haxdoorkey?

Please do the followng:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a 'RiskTool'; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between 'good' and 'malicious' use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

  • A new HijackThis log
Your may need several replies to post the requested logs, otherwise they might get cut off.

Hi Booberry,

I have just been informed that this is caused by a leftover Norton/Symantec program file that didn't uninstall like it was suppose to.

So try this first

To uninstall Norton go to HERE and follow the instructions to use the Online Removal Tool. (This requires you to use Internet Explorer, as an Active X component has to be installed).

If you have problems with the online uninstaller, follow the instructions HERE, downloading the Removal Tool to your computer.

Then post a new HJT log for me to check.
