All of a sudden I've been losing internet access due to DHCP/IPSEC issues that I've been seeing errors for in my Event Viewer. Thought I would post a HJT Log since nothing has really come up in Panda AV/Spyware scans. Thank you in advance.

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

If this doen't work I suggest you contact your ISP and see if it's on their end.

I only see one bad file.

Not sure if this will help but we can try.

I suggest you do this:

Search for and delete this file:
ALCMTR.EXE

Next:
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns
If you are typing this in, note the space between the g /f
It needs to be there.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Note: Do this for all Network Connections
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
First off, thank you so much for your assistance…

I did a search for ALCMTR.EXE, and came across three different files. I deleted the one listed as a "PF" file entitled alcmtr.exe. There were two others simply entitled alcmtr, the first is located in C:\Windows, and the other in C:\Program Files\Realtek\InstallShield. Am I to delete these as well?

Also after rebooting, and running the msconfig command I noticed there was an alcmtr.exe file in the Startup list, located at HLKM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run even after deleting that first file. Not sure if I need to do anything here.

As far as how my comp has been behaving;

For about the past week or so, I have come home from work to a network connection that shows "Limited or No Connectivity" which obviously means no network access. Usually a reboot restores connectivity, albeit temporarily, since the next day I come home to the same thing. I've been checking my System Log in the Event Viewer, and there is a ton going on it seems.

Usually there are a load of Dhcp warnings that read;

Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address XXXXXXXXXXXX. The following error occurred:
An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket. . Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

Your computer was unable to automatically configure the IP parameters for the Network Card with the network address XXXXXXXXXXX. The following error occurred during configuration: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

I've also been getting several other warnings that include the following;

The time service has not been able to synchronize the system time for 49152 seconds because none of the time providers has been able to provide a usable time stamp. The system clock is unsynchronized.

TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts.

Then finally I will get errors that read;

The IP address lease XXX.XXX.X.X for the Network Card with network address XXXXXXXXXXX has been denied by the DHCP server 0.0.0.0 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

Also, I just noticed I've been getting quite a few Denial of Service Attacks and Packets with incorrect SYN, ACK, and FIN combinations that are being blocked by my Panda Firewall.

Finally here is my latest HJT Log, sorry for being so long-winded here…..

  • Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
    then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
    time.
    Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
    actions
    "
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
    screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
    you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the
    results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan along with a new HijackThis log.
I deleted the other two files, and ran the ATF Cleaner and wow did that free up a lot of space. One question before I run the virus scan, I am using Panda Internet Security 2007, am I to uninstall that or simply disable before I follow the rest of your instructions regarding AVG? Also, I'm not sure if you can answer this, but is Panda 2007 considered good AV software? It seems to be an awful resource hog, reminding me of Norton (bleh), so I was wondering what you guys recommend. Thank you in advance.

Oops, after the above post I read AVG Anti-Spyware was compatible with Panda….

So I guess I was infested with Tracking Cookies, because my AVG Log is 21MB worth, which is obviously too much for one post here. Most of them are multiple instances of themselves, so shall I break it up into multiple posts to fit it all, or would it be possible to email you the log or something. Please Advise

Here is my latest HJT Log;

IF you selected "Quarantine" you can remove them:

With AVG Anti-Spyware, if you click on the Infections icon, then it will show you all the items in Quarrantine and you can remove them that way. Just click Select All (if all of the items in quarrantine need removing) then Remove Finally

If you had it set for the default: "No Action", then you need run again and select Quarantine or Delete.
