Hi,

To however is going to help me here, just a word of thanks from me here before i start. You guys are wonderful.

OK.. get to the problem.

I have been having this problem of for about 2 weeks or so. The CPU usage is weird, with periodic peaks @ 100% usage by a process called "iexplore.exe". The peaks come like every 30 seconds or so. Under the Windows Task Manager the User of this process is "System". When I launched my Internet Explorer 7, another process with the same name "iexplore.exe" appears, but by User account which I have logged in to Windows.

When I terminated the process "iexplorer.exe" started by System, the problem is gone. However, when I reboot, the problem will get back again.

Scans with updated Adaware Personal, AVG, Spybot Search and Destroy did not help.

Here is my HJT log:

Hello and welcome to the forum

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
Symantec LiveUpdate

For IE 7 users.
Microsoft released a patch for Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) that will boost the brand-new browser's performance on some Web sites.

http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showtopic=73801

1.Do you have unnecessary programs loading at startup?
a. Example: Quicktime / Real Player

2.When was the last time you you cleaned out Temp files and cookies?

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

3.When was the last time you ran Disk Defragmenter?
Do this after cleaning Temp files and cookies.
Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Defragmenter

Hi LDTate, Followed all your instructions except the last step of defragmentation. My hard-drive does not have enough space to do that right now, which i suppose we can make do with it. I uninstalled Symanatec Liveupdate without problems. I do not have any unncessary progs loaded at startup. I used ATF cleaner to wipe out cache and everything except my saved passwords. The problem with the iexplore.exe is still there after every reboot. Is there any other way out for this? I notice that booting up in Safe Mode, the problem does not occur. Thanks, John
Please go HERE and do a online scan.
Let me know what is found.

After scan, reboot and post a new HijackThis log

Also let me know how the computer is running now.

Looks like this Backdoor.Hupigon.azq is a high risk malicious software according to AVG Anti-spyware. Is there any other thing i need to do to remove any other backdoor or stuff like that?

Once again, thanks a lot for the effort and trouble in solving my problem!
Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find Ken32 Driver Service (SVCH0ST)
Right click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service
Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type"
in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the
Services utility.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Hi LDTate, I took a long time to reply this one because my computer crashed. Don't get me wrong, not because i deleted the wrong file, but somehow it crashed 1 day after I managed to send in my last post. I did not even see your most recent post. I had managed to reboot a few times to make sure the malware was really removed, so i guess it could not have been the problem with the malware or HJT fixing stuff incorrectly. I was just working on my computer editing some music stuff and the next moment, I saw this blue screen with error like "Unmountable Drive" or something like that. It could be a hardware problem i guess. Well, that solves the problem. I can use a Norton Ghost backup I did quite some time back to try and restore my files. In any case, thank you very much for your help LDTate. I will be back here to look for solutions if I encounter any problems again. Thanks !
Ah … somehow the harddisk manage to restart again. Did a scan disk and found quite some bad sectors in it. Sending it in for replacement since its under warranty. So its hardware problem, not bad advice from Tom Coyote forum.. haha. Better make this clear
