hi Korom,

look in add/remove programs panel and uninstall:

My Web Search Bar
MyWebSearch Email Plugin
new dot net or new dot domains
Browser Optimizer

before using hjt, disable spybots tea timer so it wont interfere with hjt.

scan with HJT, put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click fix checked:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://as.starware.com/dp/search?x=wKX1ILE…u1zXsOcOn9T/5dT

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Chckup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\Netverchk.exe
—————————————————————
reboot once, rescan and post a new hjt log. we will see whats left after running the above uninstallers if they are present.

shelf life
Thank you for your help. I did the above suggestions so here is the new log:

Sorry for the slow response, work is really busy this week.

Anyways, I did the changes but Spybot S&D kept blocking a few of the changes upon startup, plus it didn't really work that well so I uninstalled it. Here is the new hijack log:

hi Korom,

sorry for delay. good no popups. that last log looks ok. you can run hjt once more and have if remove these items, it just will tidy up the log some. the files are really gone.

if all is good, i leave you with this:

Be careful of what you download, and where you download it from. Many programs come bundled with extra software. You may be installing more than you think. Learn more about the program, Does it come bundled with other "3rd party" programs? What do they do? If you search hard enough you can always find a "clean" alternative to any software. Check this database:Spyware Guide or this: Library before installing free/shareware.

Make sure you keep your Windows OS/Browser current by visiting Windows update
occasionaly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. These will patch flaws/bugs that can be exploited.

Adjust your browser settings: Change your(active x) settings in IE. With IE open go to tools, internet options, security tab. Click on the internet globe, then custom level. Set the first option "download signed active x controls" to prompt, the next two to disable. Read more:

Outlook Express with the default settings is not secure. It will run scripts, download images etc, just like a browser, but this was the old Outlook Express. Service Pack 2 has made huge improvements to Outlook, but just like with Internet Explorer, you dont have to use it.
try Pegasus E-Mail.

Make sure you have and keep updated Antivirus software
Free for home users:

Download one or two of these, install and update before using:(if these are constantly finding malware, then you need to make changes to your browser and or your habits)
