Hope someone can help me!

I have AVG Antivirus that says it cannot "heal" and that object is imbedded. I found the folder that it is in tho. It's in the C drive, under a folder titled "System Volume Information/ Restore". I tried to delete the folder but it says "Access Denied". I did run a free program titled "Trojan Horse Remover" and it had appeared at first to remove it. I ran AVG again and it was gone. Yeah!! :D But then the very next morning it was back! :blink: Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get rid of it? I'm not very good with computers at all (other than email, lol) and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

Please delete any HijackThis Folders and Files you have now.Use Add/Remove Programs and remove HijackThis. What you have now is out dated.

you can get a complete installer that installs HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HijackThis, making an entry in the start menu and also providing a desktop shortcut from http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exe .

Click on the link and select Save, save it to your desktop and double click HJTsetup.exe.

Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here plese use the [Add Reply] button below.

Get a copy of winsockxpfix.exe in case you lose your internet connect during the fix. You just run it and things should work OK after it reboots your system.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Do you know what these programs are?

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.


1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"




Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.


Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Thank you so much for taking so much time to help me. I did everything exactly like you said and ran AVG Virus protection afterwards and the virus was gone. In fact, I ran it twice. But when AVG ran again at it's regular scheduled time this morning, it's back. It's in the same place too….system volume restore folder…. It's weird how it will go away when I do something, only to come back the next morning. I had done other things before and it did that then too.???? I don't know if you're outta ideas or not, but I sure do thank you.

The My Life/ systray, I really don't know…I think it was some old program I downloaded once, but never used…like a journal or something. The Magentic one, is from Incredimail and it's screensavers and wallpapers and such. I feel like this problem started when I downloaded a Halloween screensaver off the internet…not Magentic tho. What do you mean at the end of the message when you say to copy/paste a new log file into this thread??? sorry, a little slow….lol

I suggest you do this:

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.


1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:If you don't want / need it anymore:
MyLife




Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.



If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them.
Spywareblaster,
Spywareguard.
IE Spyads
They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening.

Also get a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
