Hi killiedeland welcome to Tom Coyote forums

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!
Hi killiedel

You are running an anti-spyware program which is not trusted or recognised to be safe,
this link provides some details:-
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Therefore it is recommended that you remove it using the Add/Remove option on your computer:

Start-Control Panel-Add/Remove

Look for the following program and remove it:

SpywareBot

_______________________

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Thanks dan

Hi killiedel

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Thanks dan

Save it to your desktop as Fixme.reg. Save it as follows…
File Type: "All Files" (not as a text document or it wont work).
Name: Fixme.reg

Did you save it as all files and not as a text document or it wont work?
thanks dan
Hi killiedel, Batch file should of worked, however, you were able to find the file and edit it. OK, just finish the remainder of the instructions and post the logs. thanks dan
Hi killieldel I will seek some confirmation on this,I'm out for the rest of the day ,but will get back later. In the meantime do not do anymore with the registry. Thanks dan
Hi killieldel You should not have changed it that way. You should change it back, although, in this particular case, I don't think it will actually create a major problem, but you need to go back in and change it manually to this: You need to navigate to the Winlogon key, make sure that System is the Value name, Type is REG_SZ, and Type no. is 00000001 and the Value field itself should just be blank. you should make sure that's what you have in that key. Then, you just just need to complete the remainder of the fix before the infection tries to regenerate itself. Thanks dan :D
hi dan,

i changed the regestry back to a value of blank, when i run the avg scan it would not allow me to quarantine 3 files - tracking cookies, mediaplex - yieldmanager and google adser… it deleted these files.

before i started to do the last fixes my zone alarm indicator at bottom right of desktop had not been moving when i was not on the net, but now it is pulseing red and green (is it was at the beginning of the fix thread)
