Hi gy2001, It sounds like in both cases, especially the sound problem, you have a driver problem or the driver was not installed. Did you install a driver for your sound? On the video problem, it sounds like you installed the driver but it may need to be updated or re-installed. You will need to get the names of the cards and you can download the drivers usually off the manufacturers website. If you have any problems or questions let me know and I'll try to help. Note: Use the MS System Information tool to find out about your hardware, ect… Click Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information. Then select the component you are looking for. Hope that helps. Dave
Hello Dave, I haven't installed the video or audio drive. I thought it is all automatic. When I went to Click Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information, I did not find anything installed under Component-audio or video How do I know the name of my sound dirve or video drive so I can download from the website?
My laptop model is COMPAQ PRESARIO R3000. When I was doing some search on line, I saw this: "I have a compaq presario R3000 laptop here that is having some trouble. It all began when i downloaded a windows update about 4 weeks ago. Immediately after I downloaded it the computer crashed and never let me back into windows, even in safe mode." See I am not the only one who had the problem. We were almost getting the problem fixed and I screwed up by some stupid download.
Great! I got audio and video drive installed. Everything is fixed. Thank you so much! Besides, how do I add a volume control icon to the right corner of my desktop?
Hi gy2001,

Click on Start->Control Panel
Now, depending on if you have Control Panel in Classic View or Category View do the following:

Category View: Click Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices->Sounds and Audio Devices->Put a check next to Place volume item in the taskbar

Classic View: Sounds and Audio Devices->Put a check next to Place volume item in the taskbar

That should do it. If you have any problems doing this try checking this link:

Hope that helps,
Dave
