Welcome to Tom Coyote :)

I'm GS2, and I will be helping you

I am an Undergraduate, and therefore everything I post has to be checked by an expert; this means there may be a slight delay between my replies, I will post shortly with the next step.

Please feel free to ask questions at anytime if you are unsure of the steps I ask you to undertake.

You currently are running HijackThis from here:

C:\Documents and Settings\John Toliver\Desktop\HijackThis.exe

Please make a folder on your desktop named:
HJT
and place HijackThis inside that folder. This step is important to ensure the backups made by HijackThis are kept safe from deletion.
Hi driver105, please do the following:

Update Java
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 10.
  • Scroll down to where it says
The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications
  • Click the Download button to the right.
  • Check the box that says:
    Accept License Agreement
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_10-windows-i586-p to install the newest version.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
to your Desktop.
Once downloaded double click on SmitfraudFix.exe

Allow the program to run, and then select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press
Enter a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a
RiskTool it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between
good and malicious use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please provide the following in your reply:
1) The contents of the smitfraud log, which can be found here C:\rapport.txt
2) A fresh HijackThis log
Here's the Smitfraud report – is this the right info? The new HJT log is below that.

Hi driver105, that was the information I needed. Please read through my steps below before carrying them out, and follow all the steps carefully, and in order :)

Have you moved HijackThis into its own folder? From the last scan you ran it from here:
C:\DOCUME~1\JOHNTO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis[1].zip\HijackThis.exe

Which means it was run from the zip file you downloaded, please ensure you have unzipped HijackThis, into its own folder. I would suggest you create a folder on your desktop called HJT and move HijackThis.exe into that folder - if you are not sure about this step let me know :)
Please only use HijackThis.exe from the folder on your desktop, and not from the zip file you downloaded. This is the path that HijackThis.exe should be located in:

C:\Documents and Settings\John Toliver\Desktop\HJT\HijackThis.exe

This step is important because HijackThis will make need to make backups when we use it, and it cannot do this inside a zip folder, these backups may be required later.

No problem with the delay driver105, its a busy time of year :) Could you post a fresh HiJackThis log for me please, the one you have provided was done before both the AVG scan and the Smitfraud fix option #2. This step is important so I can identify that the tools we have used were able to remove the infection.
Here's the latest HJT log. The computer seems to be running smooth and clean.

That's the smitfraud infection taken care of :)

You have Casino-on-Net installed, this is provided by 888.com, which is listed by both McAfee SiteAdvisor and the MVPS hosts file as an unsafe site. If it was my PC I would uninstall this program using Add/Remove (it can be found in the Control Panel) with all other windows closed. I have come to this decision using these recommendations, and reading the 888.com privacy policy. This is an optional removal, and if you are comfortable with the privacy policy of 888.com then you do not need to take this step. If you enjoy playing online poker, here are two alternative sites that can be used, they do not currently appear on the MVPS Hosts list:

* http://www.pokerstars.net/ - This is a free to use/play site.
* http://www.pokerstars.com - This is the paid for version.

Using HijackThis
