Hi pubbyand welcome to Tom Coyote forums

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!

Can you let me know what issues you are experiencing?
dan
Hi pubby

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

Thanks dan
Hi Dan, I'm not sure what to do really. I use this p.c for music, and re-formatting it would be a bit of a mare as i don't have all my plug ins and stuff to hand. I've never entered any banking details etc, and have only used for e-mail and downloads. If there was a way of cleaning to get the thing running right for now, i could use another p.c for internet access in the future. What do you think? Thanks for your time, pubby
Hi pubby

As long as you have taken note of my advice and that you don't use this pc for sensitive Information I'm happy to continue and will try my best to clean it for you.
Ok, let's continue.

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
4. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc…processutil.htm

Please include new HJT log plus combofix report plus smitfraud txt file.
in your next post
Thanks dan
O.K Dan, here you them.
Cheers mate.

Hi pubby

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.
_____________________

Download "FindAWF" from http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/FindAWF.exe
Save to desktop and run. Output is to awf.txt
Post the txt to me in the next post.

Download and save F-Secure's Blacklight (blbeta.exe) to your desktop.
## It's IMPORTANT that it's saved on the Desktop

go to start –> run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\blbeta.exe" /expert

*Note that you must have local administrative privileges to run the program.

- Accept the user agreement.
- Click Scan.

BlackLight will use Windows Explorer (the desktop process) to scan for hidden items. Your anti-virus software or personal firewall might display a warning that says Blacklight (blbeta.exe) is trying to manipulate the Windows Explorer process (explorer.exe). If you want to continue the scan, you should allow BlackLight to do this.

When it finishes, click Next. You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste the log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Please Note:
There are some bad files that look exactly the same on your system as legitamate files and I want to find them .
The difference is the file size, so when you find these files , right click the file, click on properties, check the file size, and date stamp:
These with this time stamp and file size are bad

File size=====>282624 25 Oct 2006 "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe"
File size=====>282624 24 Sep 2006 "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak\qttask.exe"

When you find them and have checked size and date stamp submit them to jotti's

Right click start, In the drop down menu click "Explore" Then navigate to each file\ folder in the left hand pane, which will reveal its content in the right hand pane, when found right click, properties and check you have the right files.

C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak\qttask.exe

hi dan, Been down a mine shaft last few days. Here you go… & scan: Service Service load: 0% 100% File: iTunesHelper.exe Status: OK MD5 d2ed7af383aab672cb7e135040967954 Packers detected: - Scanner results AntiVir Found nothing ArcaVir Found nothing Avast Found nothing AVG Antivirus Found nothing BitDefender Found nothing ClamAV Found nothing Dr.Web Found nothing F-Prot Antivirus Found nothing F-Secure Anti-Virus Found nothing Fortinet Found nothing Kaspersky Anti-Virus Found nothing NOD32 Found nothing Norman Virus Control Found nothing VirusBuster Found nothing VBA32 Found nothing Powered by Disclaimer This service is by no means 100% safe. If this scanner says 'OK', it does not necessarily mean the file is clean. There could be a whole new virus on the loose. NEVER EVER rely on one single product only, not even this service, even though it utilizes several products. Therefore, We cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service. Also, we are aware of the implications of a setup like this. We are sure this whole thing is by no means scientifically correct, since this is a fully automated service (although manual correction is possible). We are aware, in spite of efforts to proactively counter these, false positives might occur, for example. We do not consider this a very big issue, so please do not e-mail us about it. This is a simple online scan service, not the university of Wichita. Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Another note: some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware. Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 15Mb limit per file. Please refrain from uploading tons of hex-edited or repacked variants of the same sample. Please do not ask for viruses uploaded here, unless you work for an anti-virus vendor. They are not for trade. This is a legitimate service, not a VX site. Viruses uploaded here will be distributed to antivirus vendors without exception. Read more about this in our privacy policy.
