I'm trying to repair my dad's computer. It will not sustain an internet connection. It disconnects and reconnects every few minutes.

He uses SBCYahoo DSL and could not connect to the internet at all and I currently have it connected to my cable modem.

I ran his antivirus scan CA - which had been disabled, Symantec Free online scan and nothing was found. Also ran CCleaner, Adaware, Spybot S&D, AVG Anti-Spyware. They removed several cookies. AVG found Tribalfusion and Trafficmp. I also ran Windows Update , as it seemed to be disabled and I downloaded ZoneAlarm and was able to stay connected to the internet until I restarted the computer.

Could this be something that disables his security, but is not showing up on the antivirus scans?

This is the first HijactThis scan I ran:

Thanks for any help you can provide. dk
Hello and Welcome to the forum.

What we're fixing wouldn't cause the connection issue.
I suggest you call AT&T / SBC support. They should tell you how to reset the DSL modem. If it's like mine, it could be one of the filter connectors or cables. You'll need to have the PC connected to the DSL modem and call them from his phone number.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

My cable connection works fine on my computer just not on my dad's. I've been switching back and forth. I have downloaded some of the files off my computer on a jumpdrive to tranfer to his because I keep losing service on his. Thanks for all your help!
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns Now lets check some settings on your system. Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections Then right click on your Default Connection Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL Left click on Properties Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks
When I did the run and CMD the dos window came up and when I hit control and V to paste it just put the V there. I must be dense on this one. I did the Local Area Connection.
