Hi mshivalkarand welcome to Tom Coyote forums

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!
Hi mshivalkar

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute files

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

Sorry it couldn't be better news.
Thanks dan
HI ……Thanks Dan, Can you identify which files have been affected with the malware and what backdoor trojan is it. Is there no possibility of cleaning this backdoor? I would like to try to clean it before i reinstall or reformat my OS. So pls suggest me a way to clean it. IF nothing works then i will go in for reinstalling Mss
Hi mshivalkar

Ok, your machine is some what a mess, I'm happy to try and clean it up for you and I will do my best.
This fix may take several sessions to fix the multiple Infections.
As long as you have taken in the advice I gave you at the begining, and you dont use it for sensative information I'm happy to continue.
________________________________

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log, along with the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
4. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Please include new HJT log plus combofix report

please let me have the above reports.
Thanks dan
HI dan12 ..Thanks for ur reply. I shall follow the procedure as mentioned & try to clean up my system. Before going ahead, in reference to the chnage of XP settings i would like inform u that i am on a LAN connection and use a static DNS servers and not dyanamic DNS server. So in the view of that do i still go ahead with the procedure of changing the settings. Thanks Mss
hi ..i ran the fixwareout …..find below the log for it & the log for hijackthis

Hi mshivalkar, Can you limit your time on the internet, only your returned log is showing that your still surfing and picking stuff up. I will be wasting my time trying to get you clean. I'm happy to do this but a need a little help from you. Thanks dan
[
Hi mshivalkar

You have a large number of infections, and some are protecting others and trying to reload them, so we have to try and remove almost all of them in one pass. I realize this is kind of long, but you CAN do it. Please print out this instruction and go thru it methodically, without rebooting unless instructed, and NO surfing. Thanks.

You may want to print these instructions for reference

We have a few malware processes and files which we need to get rid of.
Please be patient, and follow all of the instructions as given. Please do not reboot unless it is part
of the fix, or you have no other choice. While you are following the fix, you will find it helpful to have
a pen and paper handy to take any notes, so you can let me know what happens.
Typical information that will be helpful will be:
  • Files or folders that will not delete properly
  • Any errors that occur when following a fix or during bootup
  • Notes on your system's operation (sluggish internet, popups, etc)
  • The more information we have, the better our chances to clean your system!

Hi mshivalkar

Good work! and hope your being good with Internet access?

Ok let's move on:

Download and save F-Secure's Blacklight (blbeta.exe) to your desktop.
## It's IMPORTANT that it's saved on the Desktop

go to start –> run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\blbeta.exe" /expert

*Note that you must have local administrative privileges to run the program.

- Accept the user agreement.
- Click Scan.

BlackLight will use Windows Explorer (the desktop process) to scan for hidden items. Your anti-virus software or personal firewall might display a warning that says Blacklight (blbeta.exe) is trying to manipulate the Windows Explorer process (explorer.exe). If you want to continue the scan, you should allow BlackLight to do this.

When it finishes, click Next. You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste the log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Thanks dan
