Hi, I hope you can help. I can no longer access google.com. I get a server not found page and a new window opens with Surch.com. I can access news.google.com. I've read the Self Help instructions. So far, I've run Spybot, Adaware, AVG AntiSpyware (Ewido) and Hijack This and I still am having problems. Here is my most recent Hijack This log:

Thanks, Cathy

Hello cbrackin and Welcome to TomCoyote,

Please do the following:

Disable Spyware Doctor:
Please disable Spyware Doctor, as it may interfere with the fix. To disable Spyware Doctor:
  • Click the Spyware Doctor icon in the System Tray.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Startup Settings under Pick a Category.
  • Uncheck Run at Windows startup.
  • Click Apply and Exit Spyware Doctor
Once your log is clean you can re-enable Spyware Doctor.

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:
We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Chckup] C:\WINDOWS\system32\Netverchk.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ItalU] C:\WINDOWS\system32\italfds.exe

Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Netverchk.exe<=file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\italfds.exe<=file

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

======
Hoster

Please download hoster.
  • Unzip Hoster.zip
  • Open Hoster.exe.
  • Then click on "Restore Original Hosts"
  • Close program when complete.
  • Empty Recycle Bin
Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
======
Kapersky
Now run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information from Kapersky in your next post.

Post (reply) with a fresh HijackThis log and the Kapersky log. Let me know how your computer is running.
Thanks for your quick response. I've done everything as you suggested (except the Kapersky). IE was slow to start and I still cannot get to Google.com. Here is the newest HJT log:

Susan, When I type in the IP address that you provided, I do get google.com. When I enter the URL, IE indicates that it's opening www.google.com, but it just times out. Interesting….any suggestions? Thanks, Cathy
Please try the following: Now lets check some settings on your system. (2000/XP) Only In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks. That option might not be avaiable on some systems Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK type ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter, type exit hit enter (that space between g and / is needed) Let me if you can access www.google.com now.
Susan, I flushed the DNS and my TCP/IP settings were already set to automatically obtain the DNS servers. I am connecting wirelessly via my laptop to a router that connects to my DSL connection. I am still unable to access www.google.com (by URL). Thanks
Cathy please try this:

Do a traceroute on it.

1. http://www.dnsstuff.com/
2. Traceroute box
3. Type www.google.com
4. Let it perform its operations
5. Test the site: www.google.com Does it work?
6. If not repeat the instructions with the IP address

[removed]

Let me know it this helped.
Did as you suggested. Both the URL and the IP address were traceroutable. I, however, am only to get the google page by using the IP address. Still times out when I use www.google.com.
STEP 1.
======
DelDomains

Please download WinHelp2002's DelDomains by right-clicking on the following link, and choosing "Save Target As": or if you are using Firefox "Save Page As"
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf
Save the file to the desktop. Then go to the desktop, right click on DelDomains.inf, and choose Install. You may not see any noticeable changes or prompts; this is normal.

Once it is finished your Zones should be reset.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection

Now try www.google.com. Please let me know if this helped.
OK, I just ran the DelDomains tool and restarted my laptop. I checked both the google IP address and URL and only the IP address works, not the URL.
Perhaps your firewall is interfering? I would try to "TEMPORARILY" shut-down your firewall and try to use www.google.com in your browser and see what happens. Then immediately enable your firewall again.

Is it the firewall?
