I have spent hours trying to fix this. I even paid Symantec to help and they gave up on me. The problem is that the screen goes blank after I go through the logon process. I can view the initial Windows XP screen for a few seconds before it blanks out. I think that the problem is that the display tool has been hijacked - it sets the resolution too high and will not allow changes to be permanently saved. When I try to restart Windows brings up an End Process Box for a Program - SAMPLE. I have searched and deleted anything with the name Sample and this has not helped. The only way I can get around this issue is to start in Safe Mode and uninstall the Monitor - and then restart.
