Perfectcodec ISN'T: Please help a BOZO!

OK, I'M AN IDIOT! Yes, I wanted to view the movie (curiosity killed the cat, no?), and it said I needed to download a new codec - perfectcodec.164 to be precise. Now I'm getting all kinds of warnings of viruses and trojans, and Spybot can't clean PestTrap off my computer (not sure that's the only problem). PLEASE HELP ME, this is my company notebook, and I need to be able to use it in 24 hours! My company uses a VPN, but I was using free wireless on a business trip…

I can't access the forums on the infected notebook - I get redirected to error-like pages… It's NOT nice, help me defeat it, PLEASE!!!

THANKS!!!

Hi,
I'm not sure if Micah or LDTate is helping me - but YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

While running Smitfraud, AVG popped-up with (I now realize I mistakenly left AVG active - hope I didn't screw the process up!):
Malware found
Name: Downloader.Slob.atg
Location: C:\Program Files\Perfect Codec\isaddon.dll
Risk: High
Description: This malicious software downloads, and then installs
without
the user's knowledge, other harmful programs such as backdoors.

I chose clean & remove to quarantine (as recommended by AVG), it keeps popping up as an error, the recommended AVG action isn't stopping it - I'm sure you're not surprised!

Here is my first Smitfraud rapport.txt scan:

Can't log onto Windows in Safe mode - probably because I'm not the system Administrator. Any other ideas? I'd really like this fixed BEFORE going to work tomorrow! I tried system restore, and tried two different dates that were before the infection - System restore just came back with "can't restore to that date, no changes have been made to your system"…
OH GREAT MICAH! DO YOU HEAR THE LACK OF WAILING IN THE WILDERNESS?

Looks like the CLEAN worked in regular mode. I'm actually on the forum from the notebook in-question; something I couldn't do with all the redirects!

SPYBOT (after updating) came back with:

Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.AntiVirusDisableNotify
PestTrap (ARGHHH!!)
Zlob.HomepageMonitor

What's next? Did doing it in real mode screw me up??? I haven't fixed the Spybot entries yet…
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.AntiVirusDisableNotify <– Ignore that one
PestTrap (ARGHHH!!)
Zlob.HomepageMonitor

Can you post the Spybot log?

OK, switched to advanced view for Spybot… Is this enough info, or do you need more - the file is huge. — Search result list — PestTrap: User settings (Registry value, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-909772816-612835887-627194967-21743\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache\*\pmsngr.exe Zlob.HomepageMonitor: User settings (Registry value, nothing done) HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-909772816-612835887-627194967-21743\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache\*\isamonitor.exe Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.AntiVirusDisableNotify: Settings (Registry change, nothing done) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center\AntiVirusDisableNotify!=dword:0 — Spybot - Search & Destroy version: 1.4 (build: 20050523) — 2005-05-31 blindman.exe (1.0.0.1) 2005-05-31 SpybotSD.exe (1.4.0.3) 2005-05-31 TeaTimer.exe (1.4.0.2) 2006-11-14 unins000.exe (51.41.0.0) 2005-05-31 Update.exe (1.4.0.0) 2006-02-06 advcheck.dll (1.0.2.0) 2005-05-31 aports.dll (2.1.0.0) 2005-05-31 borlndmm.dll (7.0.4.453) 2005-05-31 delphimm.dll (7.0.4.453) 2005-05-31 SDHelper.dll (1.4.0.0) 2006-02-20 Tools.dll (2.0.0.2) 2005-05-31 UnzDll.dll (1.73.1.1) 2005-05-31 ZipDll.dll (1.73.2.0) 2006-11-17 Includes\Cookies.sbi (*) 2006-10-13 Includes\Dialer.sbi (*) 2006-11-17 Includes\DialerC.sbi (*) 2006-11-03 Includes\Hijackers.sbi (*) 2006-11-17 Includes\HijackersC.sbi (*) 2006-10-27 Includes\Keyloggers.sbi (*) 2006-11-17 Includes\KeyloggersC.sbi (*) 2004-11-29 Includes\LSP.sbi (*) 2006-10-13 Includes\Malware.sbi (*) 2006-11-17 Includes\MalwareC.sbi (*) 2006-10-20 Includes\PUPS.sbi (*) 2006-11-17 Includes\PUPSC.sbi (*) 2006-11-17 Includes\Revision.sbi (*) 2006-10-13 Includes\Security.sbi (*) 2006-11-17 Includes\SecurityC.sbi (*) 2006-10-13 Includes\Spybots.sbi (*) 2006-11-17 Includes\SpybotsC.sbi (*) 2005-02-17 Includes\Tracks.uti 2006-11-17 Includes\Trojans.sbi (*) 2006-11-17 Includes\TrojansC.sbi (*)
Ok, since I want to go to bed, I'm trying to speed this up a bit - probably not the wisest thing, but…

Please let me know what else needs to be done for me to be a safe camper again! I'll check back first thing in the morning, and then hopefully be able to use my notebook at work!

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE HELP - EVEN THOUGH I KNOW I'M PROBABLY NOT COMPLETELY DONE YET!
————————————————————————————————————————

I fixed the 3 items in Spybot, then finished with the process of cleaning Temporary Internet files, running a full scan of AVG, and then SmitfraudFixing the Trusted Zone.

Rebooted, ran AVG=NOTHING FOUND!!!

Spybot only had this one (PestTrap is FINALLY history):

The infection is gone.

You've just got a few loose fragments left in the registry.

Please download/unzip this:

Registry Search 2.0 by Bobbi Flekman © 2005

on regsearch.exe, and search for these:

pmsngr.exe
isamonitor.exe

[external image: Posted Image] Make sure ALL the boxes are checked under "Search".

It may take a while to run, so be patient. When finished, the search results will appear in your text editor,

Paste the contents of the search results into your next post.

No apparent problems - but remember, I feel REALLY violated here!
