Hi Willow1971

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below. Please read this text carefully, before beginning, so you will know what to expect.

HijackThis is being run from a temporary folder; this means that any backups it creates as a result of fixes made with it will be lost. Please create a new folder for it and place the program into that new folder.

Please download CWShredder, from one of the following sites.
http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/onl…/cwshredder.exe
http://www.majorgeeks.com/CWShredder_d3019.html
http://intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

First, be sure to update CWShredder.
Then close every window, disconnect from Internet and doubleclick the CWShredder icon on your Desktop.
Click Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Then, please reboot.

Next:

Please Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
  • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the script.
  • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = http://www.cartoonnetwork.co.uk/index_uk.html#
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler V3.exe
O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/6247971C…e/bridge-c5.cab
O20 - Winlogon Notify: instcat - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\instcat.dll

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them, if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\instcat.dll

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot.

Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt into this topic, along with a new HijackThis log

Please advise if any problems remain.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
Hi Piatan, Wow..fantastic…thanks so much for your help! :) I will try it out first thing tomorrow and let you know how it goes. I can barely write this post without a barrage of pop ups appearing!
Hi,
I have carried out the instructions you sent me. Here are my SDFix log and HijackThis log. My partner downloaded some new spyware, firewall etc and got rid of Norton since I posted my original message here…so there are new enties in the HijackThis log pertaining to them.

When I ran CWShredder it said it could not detect CoolWebSearch. Also, I cannot delete C:\WINDOWS|SYSTEM32\instcat.dll - it gives me a message saying access denied.

However, the pop ups have disappeared and the computer seems much more stable. Thank you so much for helping me..a donation will follow :)

Please run the following program once more. If you still have it, there is no need to download it again, but use the following directions to use it.
Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log
Please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the SDFix report.

Please advise if any problems remain.

Great, I will try this Sunday night (I am away this weekend) and let you know if we manage to delete that pesky file. I am so pleased the computer is acting normal again and really appreciate your help. Thank you again. :thumbup:
