Hi there-

I'm getting redirected by [removed] every time I open up Internet explorer. I have run every virus scan, spyware scan, and adaware scan I can think of with no results. I have even un-installed and re-installed the browser! It seems I'm not getting the problem when I use firefox, but I would like my computer to be clean. Here is my HijackThis log.

Any help you can give is appreciated. I'm at my wit's end! :rant2:
Hello corwin6654 and welcome to the TomCoyote Forums. I am currently looking over your log. As I am an still in training here, everything that I post to you must be reviewed by one of the experts here. Thus, there may be a small delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a suggested fix. Thanks for your patience! Dave
Hello corwin6654,

I recommend you print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
First of all, thank you very much for helping me. I couldn't figure out what was going on and it was driving me nuts! :blink: I didn't know if I should run the scan from HijackThis before I flushed the DNS or after, so I just did it afterwards. Here are the reports. Thanks again for all the help,

Fixwareout ver 1.003

Hello corwin6654,

Before starting any cleaning steps, please disable Windows Defender real-time protection:
  • Open Windows Defender.
  • Click on Tools.
  • Click Options.
  • Uncheck Use real-time protection (recommended).
  • Click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.
After cleaning up make sure you re-enable this real time protection.

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DMQAH.EXE

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

If Jotti is too busy you can try these.

http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html
http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html

Now you can run HiJackThis. Check the boxes next to these items:

Thanks for all the help, it sounds like we are close to a clean PC!
Hello corwin6654,

Things are looking much better. Just a little "clean up" to do.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Hello Indigenus,

Things seem to be back to normal. I tried out IE a few times and I haven't been re-directed by that [removed] IP anymore, and when I click on search results it doesn't re-direct me to other pages that I didn not request. Here is the latest HJT log. Thanks for all the help on this,

Hello corwin6654,

Glad to hear things are running better. :D
Your computer appears to be all clean. :thumbup:

In addition to running and keeping your Anti-Malware software updated I recommend the following.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected anyway)

1. Turn Off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Turn On System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Here is a great program for cleaning up all temp files, cookies, ect…:
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop. Do not use it yet!

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache
*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Some other free tools you may want to consider:

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently or Turn on Automatic Updates - It is important that you visit Windows Update regularly. This will ensure your computer always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
