Hello Joe13 and welcome to the TomCoyote Forums.

Sorry for the delay in getting to your log. As you can probably see we are pretty busy here. I am currently looking over your log. As I am an still in training here, everything that I post to you must be reviewed by one of the teachers. Thus, there may be a small delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a suggested fix.

One Note: You are running HijackThis from the desktop. I recommend that you move HJT to it's own permanent folder.
Please do the following:Create a new permanent folder in a convenient location that you will remember. To do this: Open Windows Explorer.
Select the drive or folder that you would like to put HJT
From the menu select File > New > Folder
Rename the folder to something you will remember (ie HJT, HijackThis, ect…)
Now move HJT to the new folder that you created.
Do not make any changes or click Fix checked until we check the log, as many of the files are legit and vital to your computers' health.
Thanks for your patience!

Dave
Hello Joe13,

You have the Begin2Search Adware variant. To fix this please do the following.

Please run HiJackThis. Check the boxes next to these items:
O2 - BHO: ohb - {5ED7D3DE-6DBE-4516-8712-01B1B64B7057} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\SearchTool\nsb1D.dll
O2 - BHO: ohb - {5ED7D3DE-6DBE-4516-8712-436325722327} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\SmartShopper\SmartShopper0.dll

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Post a new HJT log for review. Please also let me know how things are running now.

Dave
Thank you! the computer seems healthier. Here's the new log…

Hello Joe13,

Your computer appears to be all clean. I recommend doing the following to prevent re-infection:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which may be infected anyway).

1. Turn Off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Turn On System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

You are running an old version of Sun Java which needs updating:

* Go here and click on the Download button to the right of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.
* Accept the license agreement by clicking the radio button.
* Under Windows Platform - J2SE™ Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 9, click the Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language link.
* Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove any entries that refer to Java 2 Runtime Enviroment and then reboot your PC.
* Navigate to and delete the following folder, if it exists: C:\Program Files\Java.
* Finally double click the installation file that you downloaded earlier.

In addition to updating and using your Anti-virus and Firewall I recommend using a couple other free programs to keep you running well.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Spybot: Search And Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

Install Ad-Aware - Ad-Aware SE You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Update all of your Anti-Malware programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed and the ones you are currently running regularly. Without regular updates you Will Not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Use ATF Cleaner - Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.
ATF Cleaner is great for cleaning up all temp files, ect…

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache
*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Here is a great link to some information here on securing your computer after an attack.
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?show…mp;#entry257163

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
