What your infected with is Vundo, amongst a few other things, we got most of it but there still may be some left to clean. You may want to print this out as we will be offline for most of the fix.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop.

I need to see the log from Vundobegone, the log from AVG and a new HJT log please.
Ken, here are the two reports you requested. Everything you suggested was easily understood and was fairly easy to do. There were two files you asked me to do a search for. (awtqr.dll and winbjt32.dll). I did a search using the search files and folders, and the only file came up was awtqr.dll.bad-C:/vundofix backups. Should I remove this file? I printed out all your info, and should I suspect another hijack on my machine in the future, would you advise following your instructions again, or submit another log. I wlll reverse the hidden file extensions.etc. I am running Norton 2007 and you would think it would take care of these pest before they infect. Let me know if I need to do anything else and I really do appreciate your help and patience. Good Morning,

You did well, I need to see another HJT log please. I won't be back until early this evenings so there is no rush. You can open Counterspy and go to the Quantine folder and remove it all.

Most of what AVG found where either in Quarantine or cookies, lets make sure its all gone, run the free online scan from Panda, post the log and a new HJT log.

Panda ActiveScan <—-Accept default settings

I will be offline until early this evening, I will look over your reports and your new HJT log when I get back.

Ken :D
Ken, I removed all the quarantined files from Counterspy, and AVG. I ran Panda Active scan and the window to Panda is not large enough for me to read all the info. There is no way to enlarge their window. The scan did find 2 spyware files, and it found 3 hijacking tools along with, two suspicious files. I have no idea what the files are named. As far a log here, I do not how to get one on Panda. Below is the new HJT log. Do you want me to delete the earlier file mentioned (awtqr.dll bad located in C:\vundofix backups).
I can run Panda again but not sure if I am configing or loading it properly. Is there a default setting that will get it right?
Let me know if there is anything else you want me to do, and thanks again.

(awtqr.dll bad located in C:\vundofix backups).

You can remove this if you wish, its in the backups so its not active.

The rest of your log looks fine  It looks like we got rid of Vundo

Don't know what to tell you about Panda, never ran across this before. What is the resolution for your monitor set at. You can right click on your desktop and go to Properties> Setting and it will tell you. What size monitor do you have??

You have an entry in your AVG Scan for Purity, this is bad and some of it may still be present. Run this quick scan and post the log please along with a new HJT log/

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from either of these two locations

BleepingComputerComboFix

  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply along with a new HJT log please.
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Ken, I had my resolution set too low, changed and got Panda's full site page. I ran the Activescan, and below is the log. Also a new HJT log. I did not act on your latest suggestion and d/load Combofix. I can do it later if you like. Advise me on what's next!

Hello Again :D

Download Pocket Killbox to your desktop, unzip it to a folder that you can find

c:\windows\system32\unPPC.exe
C:\VundoFix Backups\awtqr.dll

Highlight all the files with the complete path inside the quote and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.
  • Open Pocket Killbox
  • Go to File > Paste from clipboard
  • Set it to Delete on Reboot
  • Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
  • If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
  • Make sure ALL Files is selected
  • Click on the Red circle with the white X
  • It will ask you to confirm the deletion…Say yes
  • It will ask you to reboot, say yes

Please run the Combofix program, its a quick scan and even if it doesnt find anything, it will list files that have been created in the last 30 days, this is what I want to see.

Ken :D

Been a long day, be back in the AM
Ken, this is the log from combofix, and new HJT log. I will follow with Killbox info later.

So far so good

Is this a program that you installed and know about, if not remove it via the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
C:\Program Files\VSAdd-in

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Java website and download and install the update.
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
How is your system running now???
Ken, I am sorry to take so much of your time, but the Killbox wiped out 36 operating files. I had to do a system restore back to last night to 8:30PM to get back on line. I am about ready to give up, but I will hang in there if you will. Tell me what to do next. The machine was doing fine until killbox got me. I followed your instructions, but things happen. Sorry!
Sorry you had problems, :( it looks like you did not run Killbox correctly, it sounds like you did not insert those files correctly into killbox and it deleted the system32 folder and not the files that I put in the quote box. I hope you got things back working

I will hang in there if you will.
<– I'm here until your clean

Outside of C:\Program Files\VSAdd-in the rest of your log looks fine but since you used System Restore, you may have reinfected yourself as everything we removed is backed up in that program. Post a new HJT log and lets hope nothing come back.
