Welcome to Tom Coyote I am not looking at anything real bad on your log, just some clutter.

Hijackthis 1.99.1
Its important that Hijackthis is installed in its own permanent folder for backup purposes.
  • Go to where you currently have HJT installed and delete the whole folder.
  • Use the link above or the links in my signature to download HJT 1.99.1 setup to your desktop
  • Double Click on the Setup icon and by defaut it will unzip to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis

We need to disable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy as to not interfere with the fix.
  • Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check these and click on Fix Checked

If you don't know what these are, then fix them, if you know what they are and use them then leave them be.

Run this system cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

The rest of your log looks fine  What issues are you having that you may think are malware related???
Hi Ken,

Thanks for the help, the questionable ones,

(R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = https://resnet-bs2.uwe.ac.uk/login.pl?actio…F;r=uDqmgEU6226

I think are fine as the laptop is connected to a university residents network "resnet".

My problem lies with what Norton keeps telling me are virus's and go by the name of "dialer.generic" and "dialer.trojan" I'm also suffering from a bad case of pop ups too!

The norton method of removal doesn't seem to work effectively,, PLEASE could you offer any advice to get rid of this?

Thanks for your help!!!!

Mark

Mark :D

Your log still looks fine, but the dirtbags that write this garbage are always finding ways to hide there files and programs. Lets do a few things.

1. I want you to run AVG Anti Spyware,

2. the free Panda online virus scanner

3. Then I want you to go to where you have HJT installed and right click on the HJT Icon ( looks like a stick of dynamite with a plunger ) and then click on Rename and rename it to anything you like , Mark.exe will be fine, then run the scan and post a new log.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
Panda ActiveScan <—-Accept default settings

I need to see the AVG Report, the Panda report and a new HJT log please

Take your time, I won't be back online until early this evening.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for your guidance!! when I started the laptop in safe mode, AVG found and removed a trojan, I then followed your instructions and the reports are as follows:

I hope these will be able to locate the source of the problems!!

I'm not sure if it will help but some of the problems Norton has "dealt with" are:

Trojan.busky

infostealer

razespyware

trojan.dropper

adwarepurityscan

dialer.trojan

dialer.generic

Those are the ones I have been able to write down. I hope you can help!!!

Eagerly awaiting your advice.

Mark
Mark,

You did not follow my instructions correctly, you need to rename the HJT program to anything you like, mark.exe for example ( the icon looks like a stick of dynamite with a plunger ) you renamed the folder its in, I need you to right click on the HJT icon and rename it.

AVG I wanted you to set it up to Quarantine, you had it set up to Take no Action, I need you to redo it and run the scan again and post a new report.

We need to disable the Tea Timer in Spybot Search and Destroy as to not interfere with the fix.
  • Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer

So, set up AVG correctly , run the scan and let me see the report, rename HJT and post a new log.
Hi Ken.

Sorry for the confusion with the initial scan. Here is the AVG report, when i went change the settings it said that they were set to quarantine and looking through the different screens it tells me that there are 14 items in quarantine, it seems these are the same as the ones in the first report. I PROMISE you I have put changed the settings to quarantine although it doesn't say that on the report.

Apologies and kindest regards,

Mark
OK Mark, no need ever for any sort of apologies, we just want to make sure we can clean you up and your input is important to us. AVG found nothing except cookies  Go ahead and rename HJT and post a new log. The reason for this is that there are infections out there that are being written to not be detected by HJT and by renaming HJT to something else, it may show those bad entries in your log. I am looking over your Panda log now and will be back later on this evening.
Hi Ken, :wavey:

Thanks for the comments, here's the HJT or (Mark.exe) :D report:

Looking forward to hearing from you!!!

Mark
Mark, Mark, Mark, :D

What am I going to do with you, you still have not renamed HJT, you just renamed the folder its in

C:\Program Files\Mark.exe\HijackThis.exe

C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\mark.exe <– This is how it should be

Rename the folder Hijackthis and then rename the program inside the folder Analyze.exe, or mark.exe is fine.

I also just noticed that you have TWO Anti Virus programs running, this is a bad thing as they will consume vast amount of system resources and sometimes conflict with one another, you call but you need to go to the Add-Remove programs in the Control Panel and uninstall one .

What are you experiencing? Are you getting a lot of popups or a real slow computer ??
