Hi, All- explorer.exe was corrupt and whn I rebooted, I only get a blank screen. I am able to run programs only by starting a new task via task manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE). Is there a way to reinstall explorer.exe without reinstalling the operating system? Many thanks! DJ
If you are simply wanting your Desktop Icons to be restored the way there previously were: 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Display, click the Desktop tab, and then click Customize Desktop. 3. Select Restore Defaults If you believe that "explorer.exe was corrupt", please provide additional information from specific error messages and alerts that you may have received. Best Regards
I don't have that info., as the message appeared, then windows restarted before I could write it down. As far as I can see, explorer.exe is no longer on the computer.
Did you try the Desktop Display steps to restore your Desktop icons? The executable file for Windows Explorer can be found at: C:\Windows\explorer.exe (you'll have to set options to unhide system files) You can create a Desktop Shortcut for Windows Explorer. Let us know if you are able to do so. It is possible that some Windows Operating System files have become corrupted. To detect and repair: Start - Run - (type)sfc /scannow - enter System File Checker (sfc) will take about 20 minutes to scan through your OS files for missing or corrupt files and will replace them from you XP installation CD which it will call for if needed. Best Regards
