I am getting periods of popups flashing up and then nothing for a while. Then a little while later the process starts all over again. I've run Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware SE several times but with no success. Here is my HJT log after a sweep with Spybot and Ad-Aware and a fresh reboot of the system. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Welcome to Tom Coyote You have a few things going on that we need to fix. Lets start by running the Vundo Fix, this may be the root of your problems but there will be more to do when your done with this.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

First off, thank you for responding to my post and giving me a place to start. I apologize for the tardiness of my reply, but I have been so frustrated with this problem that I have been trying to avoid using any browsers at all and didn't notice your reply as quickly.

The following is the content of the VundoFix.txt file.

Again, I greatly appreciate your assistance!! :) - Richard
Hello Richard :D

We still have a little more to do, I would suggest printing this out as we will be offline for part of the fix. This stuff is really frustrating on both our ends, the lowlife that write this garbage are always trying new ways to hide there files.

So…take your time and follow all the instructions, I will be on and off line all day tomorrow so I should respond to you rather quickly when you post back.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run Ewido and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check all these entries and click on Fix Checked.

  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system

  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Still in Safemode, look for and delete these files, let me know if any can not be deleted.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\C5293.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ozpjycj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wotjhjj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zxhstn.exe

Reboot normally and run this system cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

I need to see the AVG report and a New HJT log please
I appreciate your frustration as well. I've never been able to understand their need to create such programming. I know why they do it, but I just don't understand the mentality behind it. At any rate, I was able to do as you instructed with minor exceptions. The only file that I could delete was wotjhjj.dll because it was the only one of them that existed. All else seemed to go as expected. Here are the logs you asked to see.

Good Morning to you as well, although I believe it's afternoon for you now. :D

I have finally completed all of the requested scans and other instructions. Again, I was unable to delete the folder you mentioned due to it not existing. I should probably mention that in my early attempts to isolate my problem, I moved my local settings/temp folder files and some system32 files to my desktop to try and avert any executables that might have been looking for the files in their original location. I was seeing errors pop-up that included those file names. I moved them instead of deleting them for fear of deleting something I shouldn't.

Here are the report and log files you requested.

Thank you :D - Richard
Richard,

You are following instructions very well, thank you, some logs I work its like pulling teeth to get results posted back. :D

Do the safemode thing and delete these if present.

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\rdgUS2651.exe

C:\WINDOWS\media_motor_bundle.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Ym96bw

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\suchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\icon_mediamotor.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ts_mediamotor.exe

C:\Documents and Settings\GrimesR\zxczxc

Lets clean out your temp files manually, there seems to be some things in there that need a boot. This needs to be done in safemode also.

* Go to My Computer/ C: Drive/ Documents and Settings/ Every User on this Computer Local Settings and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder and the Temporary Internet Files Folder <–Just the contents, not the folder itself.

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Temp and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder <– But not the temp folder itself.

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Prefetch and remove all the contents of the Prefetch Folder. <–But not the Prefetch folder itself.

Reboot your system normally

Close any instance of Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
  • Go to Start> Control Panel> Internet Options . You shoud be on the General Tab
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Files > and offline content as well
Now Empty your Recycle Bin

Reboot and run this other system cleaner.

If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < – After it scans your system, when you click on the Fix button and it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

Richard, the rest of your log looks fine

How are things running now????
Seems to be running like a CHAMP!! :D There were mostly just the mediamotor files on my system to delete, but there was no problem getting rid of them. CCleaner scan was run and backup was created.

Email deleted for security reasons

Do you need any further logs?

I can't begin to thank you enough for all your time, patience and expertise! I am truly grateful!! :D

My deepest and sincerest praise and thanks!
Richard

if you could contact me personally, I would appreciate it:

Sorry Richard but it's important that we keep our identity private, just look at us as kind of a superman coming out of a phonebooth :D you can always PM me in the future if you need help.

Glad things are well

Thanks for using Tom Coyote
I can completely understand that and respect the need for privacy. The reason I suggested this was that I went to your profile and tried to send you a private message and an error came up saying: You are not allowed to use the messenger feature on this board That was the reason to try and contact you another way. I would be happy to utilize any other suggestions you have. Thanks so much!
Richard, The PM only works for new members after your 5th post and you have 6 so it should work. I will leave this thread open for you for a week or so in case you need to post back.
Thanks, but even after 6 posts, it still appears that I'm not able to use the PM feature. Maybe it takes a bit of time to determine my status. I really just needed to ask a question and favor. I don't see that I personally have the ability to edit my own posts, but it's evident that you can. I was wondering if you could make some edits for protection purposes.
Go ahead and post them, I will edit the ones you want me to and also the ones in your new post. Try going up at the top of the forum for My Controls> Board Setting and make sure the one for PM is set to NO
I greatly appreciate the EXTRA time this will take! This is definitely above and beyond the call of duty!! :D How can I send kudos to any supervising moderators/administrators about your work?
