Thanks a lot, let me knwo what you think
I cant read your HJT log the way you posted it, see the difference from the way you posted it originally.

Do this…
  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Format and make sure WordWrap is unchecked
  • Go to Edit> Select All…..Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread.
  • Please use the [external image: Posted Image] Button and not the New Topic Button
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
sorry, this should be better. also, the error retrieving update is the same error i have been getting lately when trying to update ad-aware se.

heres the HJT log:

AHHH Thats better. All the bad enties are gone from your log, but that does not mean the infections are totally gone. Lets do this.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

Boot into Safemode and look for these two files and delete them if present. They could be in C:\, C:\windows or C:\windows\system32

flashdrvr.dll
vistax.dll

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

This is the fix for a Wareout infection FYI, if you look at the 017 entries in your original log, this infection is redirecting you to here.

85.255.112.0 - 85.255.127.255
Inhoster hosting company
OOO Inhoster, Poltavskij Shliax 24, Kharkiv, 61000, Ukraine

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
FixWareout Subratam
FixWareout Lonny
  • Save it to your desktop and run it.
  • Click Next, then Install,
  • Then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
Save the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt and post it into your next reply.

Now lets check some settings on your system. For (2000/XP) Only)
  • Go to Start > control panel.
  • If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
  • Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl.
  • Left click on properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available on some systems
  • Next Go start> Run type cmd and hit OK
  • Type in ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
  • Type exit hit enter

Post the results from Wareout and a new HJT log please and also let me know what the error is that is preventing you from running some programs.

Whats next?
slez81,

Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and remove this C:\Program Files\Viewpoint it's not malware itself but installs without your knowledge or consent and is not needed for anything.

Then remove this entry with HJT
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

Make sure that windows is still enabled to show all files and folders and boot to safemode and delete this file

Reboot normally and run this free online virus scanner from Panda, I need to see that report.
Panda ActiveScan <<
okay thats all done now, sorry it took so long, was at work all day. heres the active scan report Incident Status Location Virus:Trj/Lowzones.SX it said the status was disinfected. what should i do next? Once again, thanks a bunch
Post one last HJT log and lets make sure nothing has come back.

As far as not connecting to your email and AVG updates, this may be a windows problem.

Try this..
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.
You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

Close any instance of Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
  • Go to Start> Control Panel> Internet Options . You shoud be on the General Tab
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Files > and offline content as well
  • Then go to the Programs Tab and Reset Web Settings
okay, did the internet options stuff. tried the scan thing, it asked for my CD, i put it in, and it kept saying to insert the disc, i'd hit retry and it still woudnt work, i know the drive is funtioning cuz it auto ran the CD. got a new HJT log. tried email… still no luck.

Your log looks fine  This may be a windows issue , I would suggest calling your ISP and let them know you can't access your email.

You also may want to install the Firefox browser and see if that makes a difference connecting to sites you cant access with IE. I have been using this for years and only use IE when I absolutly have to. You can run them both, they won't conflict with each other.

FireFox

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Java website and download and install the update.
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify

Please keep in mind that the reasons we call it malware is because the people that write this garbage are all computer programmer wanabees, and they all write bad code, they have one purpose and thats to steal from you and cause havoc on your system. Sometimes , but not always, even if a computer is cleaned up real well it still leaves some damage behind. I don't know if the infections you had caused this or if its just a plain old windows issue.

Ken :D
Thanks so much, but one more problem occurred. over the night, my browser opened and one of those "your system may be infected" pop up warnings came up. my virus program caught "system doctor". this is one of the ones that had been happeneing before. any idea how to stop this one?
