Hi KingAlHenry. I need to take some time to look over your Hijack This log to come up with a fix. Please remember that I am an undergraduate which means I need to have my posts to you checked by a teacher or moderator to make sure I'm giving you the proper instructions. This process won't take long and I thank you for your patience. I'll be back with you soon. :)
Hi! Thanks for letting me know, I am very grateful for your help so will await further instructions!! Once again, thanks for your help! ahenry82!
Hi KingAlHenry! Please follow the instructions below:
  • Download this file - combofix.exe
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Please post the Combofix log and a fresh Hijack This log in your next reply.
Hi,

Hi KingAl. I'm back :) Sorry that took some time but those logs are long and I want to give you precise instructions. You might want to print these instructions as you will not have access to the internet for part of this fix. Could you please open Notepad and copy and paste the text in the box below into Notepad (NOTE–you MUST use Notepad and not Wordpad):

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\winbjv32]

Please make sure there are no blank lines above the word REGEDIT4 and ensure the blank line at the bottom is included then save the file and in the save as files of type box please make sure you choose all files. Save the file to your desktop with the name fixreg.reg. Do not do anything with the file yet. We'll use it later.

Next please run Hijack This again and put a check (tick) next to the following entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\about.htm

O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 auto.search.msn.com
O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 search.netscape.com
O1 - Hosts: 69.20.16.183 ieautosearch

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.real.com/27f037ef43f3da…ip/RdxIE601.cab

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winbjv32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winbjv32.dll

Close all other browsers/windows and click Fix Checked. Close Hijack This.

We need to make sure you can see all hidden files and folders, explained below:
  • Click "Start".
  • Click "My Computer".
  • Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
  • Select the "View" tab.
  • Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
  • Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
  • Click "Yes" to confirm.
  • Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types".
  • Click "OK".
Next please reboot the PC into safe mode according to the instructions below:
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
Use Windows Explorer to search for and delete the following (don't worry if they don't exist):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\cool.exe<—This file.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winbjv32.dll<—This file.

Please reboot the PC into normal mode and make sure no other windows/programs are open. Then double click the fixreg.reg file we made earlier. Please click yes when it asks you if you want to allow this file to merge with the registry.

Once that's finished please reboot the PC once more and post a fresh Hijack This log. And you're welcome for the help.
:D
Right, fresh HijackThis log for your evaluation!

Thanks a lot

KingAl

Hi KingAl. Just a few more steps and we clean and more importantly secure! Please print these instructions as this part can be lengthy and you will not have access to the internet for part of it.

Step 1

Download ATF cleaner from here.

Locate ATF Cleaner.exe and open it.

Under Main select the following:

Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Step 2

We need to uninstall MS Java and update Java to the latest version of the Sun Java Platform:

Uninstalling the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM)

Please follow these steps to uninstall the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine:
  • Click on the Start menu, then select the Run option.

  • In the Open: field type in or copy and paste the following text

    RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall

  • Then press the OK button.

  • You will now be presented with a conformation prompt like the one below:

    [external image: Posted Image]

  • Press the Yes button to start the uninstall process of the MS JVM.

  • Windows will uninstall the files and then give you a prompt asking whether or not you want to restart the computer. You should press the YES button to allow it to do so.

  • When the computer has restarted and you are back at the desktop delete the follow folders and directories:
    c:\windows\inf\java.pnf
    c:\windows\java
    c:\windows\system32\wjview.exe
    c:\windows\system32\jview.exe

  • Click on the Start menu, then select the Run option.
  • In the Open: field type in or copy and paste the following text:

    regedit.exe

  • Press the OK button.
  • Navigate to the following keys and delete them:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Java VM
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\JAVA_VM
If you are using Windows NT or 2000 then you may have to replace all occurrences of c:\windows with c:\winnt in the instructions above.

If you are using Windows 95, 98, 98SE and ME then you need to replace all occurrences of c:\windows\system32 with c:\windows\system in the instructions above.

If you have any questions about this process a link to the full tutorial can be found here:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial97.html

Now you should go to http://www.java.com/ and download and install the latest SUN Java for your operating system According to the below instructions:

Step 3

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version…

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
