Below is my HJT log for my desktop computer. When I try to boot up my computer, often it shuts down without warning. I posted this on another forum here. We ran a program called sfc and it seemed to work a little. My computer will now run in safe mode with networking, and occassionally in normal mode. I suspect there's some major malware. Thank you for looking at this for me.

hi buckeyefrank100, as far as malware goes the log looks ok. you have windows defender and looks like two antivirus. antivir and norton? you only need one, two is not better in this case. i would uninstall one via the add/remove programs panel. have you installed any new software or updated any drivers lately? the fact it can run in safe mode might mean a driver issue, in safe mode only a minimum of components are loaded up. shelf life
Thanks for the reply. I was afraid the scan would come back clean. As far as the 2 antivirus, Norton has been disabled. I have had this problem for about 2 months now and do not remember if there was any new programs. I think it may be just the opposite. I might have been doing some cleanup and uninstalled a few programs. As far as drivers, I don't believe I have installed any lately. I was running Windows XP home edition and I had access to a Windows XP Professional. I installed the professional as an upgrade last weekend. I tried to log into windows regularly and the computer shut down on me again. Safe Mode is still the only thing that works right now. Let me explain what exactly is happening: My computer will shut itself down (but not completely). It will either be booting up or I will be logged into Windows and the screen will go black. The computer doesn't shut itself down completely because there is stilll a yellow light on. I'm assuming at this point that either a driver is bad, a windows system file is corrupted or my hard drive has errors. Do you have any idea how to identify the cause of the problem? Thank you, Buckeyefrank100
hi buckeyefrank100, there are some thngs you can try but its really outside the scope of this forum: once in safe mode look under device manager for any problems, they usually have a exclimation point on the item if there is a problem.
