Hi,

I would be grateful if you could let me know what is going on with my pc and trojans… I opened an innocent looking website this afternoon and got two virus alerts from Mcaffe (about VBS/Psyme and JS/Exploit-BO.gen) that supposedly did not attack my system; however my windows firewall was disabled and I had to change the registries to fix it. then my hard disk made too much noise (my pc is new! one week old! was very very silent) and the IE had to close due to an unexpected error. I run several antivirus programs, mcaffe didn't find anything, then panda found a Virus:Trj/LdPinch.SL and several other spyware from cookies. I am really concerned about having more viruses in my computer… Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the log file:

Thanks for your reply… I did the scan you told me and as I was afraid my computer is infected! Btw I thought that this main.exe was a virus so I did a scan with Mcafee and nothing came out…all clean it said. Then I sent it to the Mcafee avert lab and again no virus was detected Here is the log: ——————————————————————————- KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER REPORT Wednesday, October 11, 2006 6:44:10 PM Operating • You will now be asked if you would like to reboot your computer to delete the file. Click on the Yes button if you would like to reboot now.
Please run the Kapersky scan again and post (reply) with the results.
I downloaded ATF Cleaner, and deleted all those files; however I couldn't find the main.exe file afterwards. Thus, I didn't do anything else with the Hijackthis Delete on Reboot tool (I didn't reboot). I restored the folders back to normal (ie to hide those folders) and have started doing the scan. Shall I unhide the folders for the scan or not?
In any case, this is the log from the kaspersky scan but without the hidden folders unckecked. No infection found. Shall I do the scan again with the hidden folders unchecked? ——————————————————————————- KASPERSKY ONLINE SCANNER REPORT Wednesday, October 11, 2006 8:45:29 PM Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Hi Christina,

Good work! Your logs appear to be clean now!

Please follow the additional suggestions to help prevent infections.

STEP 1.
======
DON’T BECOME OVERCONFIDENT WITH ANTIVIRUS APPLICATIONS INSTALLED!!!

http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic….39eba6ea0b5e8ee

Stay up to date on security patches and be extremely wary of clicking on links and attachments that arrive unbidden in instant messages and e-mail.

"The number one thing the majority of the malicious code we're seeing now does is disable or delete anti-virus and other security software," Dunham said. "In a lot of cases, once the user clicks on that attachment, it's already too late."

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit Windows Updates regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
    A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
    A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
    Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

  • More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Thank you for allowing me to assist you.

Susan
Hi Susan, thanks for that but it seems that my computer is not clean after all. I run port explorer and there are several ports open of svchost.exe without an * that are running from port 53 and the RAT is muska52. then I did another free scan for trojans and they found a vundo trojan in wintab32.dll What am I going to do????Please help!!!
Please explain what free scan you used to scan for trojans? Can you post the results from that scan.

STEP 1.
======
Trojan Hunter
  • Download the free trial version of TrojanHunter
  • Install (allow registry entry to be changed if necessary – THGuard) and update. You will get an evaluation notice – choose “Continue Evaluation”.
  • You will see window titled “TrojanHunter – UNLICENSED EVALUATION COPY”
    Click icon “Full Scan” and let it scan- this may take awhile
  • If you have Trojans then a window titled “Clean Trojans” will open after the scan.
  • Be sure the entries are checked and click the “Clean” button.
  • Go to the window “TrojanHunter – UNLICENSED EVALUATION COPY”
    Go the “File” on the top menu =>Save Scan Report”.
Please copy and paste the Scan Report in your next reply.

Also the following will help me see if there is Vundo present.

STEP 2.
======
Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

You may receive pop-up asking if you will allow script to run when you perform the following instructions. Please allow the script to run.

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."…then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Please post (reply) with the results from the TrojanHunter scan and the l2mfix logs.

Yes, I did try the hackerwatch and everything seems to be working normally. All ports are safe. Thanks for the advice! Is there anything else that I could check? I am really worried…My pc is brand new and I don't want to have any trojans hiding somewhere. I thought about reinstalling everything…I would greatly appreciate any more advice on what I could check… Thanks, Christina
Hi Christina,

This is also a good scan for Trojans if you want to run another scan.
======
A2 Free

You will have to register name and email address but this is free too.
Download A2
and run. Post the results please.

This is a good place to check on anti-spyware applications. Some give false positives in order to goad you into buying them. That is one reason I wanted to know what scan detected the trojan you were referring to.
