Verifying fix for vundo, winfixer/trojan infection

Hi all and welcome to my first post here.

I just spend 3+ days recovering from a bad case of Winfixer with full Trojan complements. Let me just add that I believe my variant was a new one and it was missed by almost every vendor except for the vundo (actually removed it) and others that detected but did not remove. Some of the more unpleasant aspects of this infection were :
1) any attempt to visit update or vendor sites for AV or AM results in popup explosions
2) when the popup sites are added to IE exclusion lists, a side-bar popup that intrudes on the left side
3) interferes with HijackThis and Ad-Aware (crashing them immediately)
4) interferes with visits to this help forum and others by crashing IE repeatedly
5) spiking CPU when it doesn't like your surfing activities, and you know what I mean :-(
6) prevents safe-mode deletion of dlls involved
7) full windows updates were already in place including security updates
8) auto-dialer comes up immediately after boot and pesters you to get your network going

Anywho i think it under control (knock!!) But I'd like some confirmation. I searched the resolved posts and only saw one that looked vaguely similar, but there were enough differences in the infection that I believe mine wouldn't be entirely fixed using the steps in that post. I see lots of "file missing" entries in the HJT log below and would like to know what if anything should be done with those.

Thanks for the forum -
J.

Welcome to the forum :wavey:

Looks like Winfixer is pretty much dead.

However, you've still got multiple malware entries floating about.

This might not cure everything, but it should get the worst ones.

Download combofix.exe from the link below:

Combofix.exe

Save it to your desktop.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run it.

When finished, it will produce a log for you.

Post that log in your next reply, along with a new HijackThis! log.
:)

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Thanks for the info, but the link to combofix doesn't work nor does the download domain for that site. Is there another location? Thanks J.

I can only find two links:

BleepingComputerComboFix

TechSupportForumComboFix

Unfortunately they both don't work presently, for whatever reason….

Let's try without combofix.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{A55581DC-2CDB-4089-8878-71A080B22342} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1B83825F-4398-4F2E-8E31-4E7A19210A40} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\qomnm.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Cicziw] C:\Program Files\Common Files\?ppPatch\j?vaw.exe

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\program files\common files\?pppatch\j?vaw.exe <— file

c:\windows\system32\ynusbl.exe <— file

c:\windows\win3207108198871.exe <— file

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread. :)
Okay, finally after 1 week I'm back on it. The system seems stable for last week but I took your advice about running combofix and here it is. Found Qoologic and SurfSideKick. what should I do with the quarantined stuff in Qoobox? Delete it? Also is combofix going to always run at startup now? Thanks for all your help and for providing this service.
