Hi, I've been recieving certain errors lately that seem to corespond with a virus in other forums, so i thought i should post a log and see how things are going with my computer. Thank you to whoever looks at this… i respect greatly the ability to be able to look at what looks to me like giberish and derive answers about computers from it. thanks again:

Welcome to Tom Coyote

Hijackthis 1.99.1
Its important that Hijackthis is installed in its own permanent folder for backup purposes.
  • Go to where you currently have HJT installed and delete the whole folder.
  • Use the link above or the links in my signature to download HJT 1.99.1 setup to your desktop
  • Double Click on the Setup icon and by defaut it will unzip to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows , tick these entries and click on Fix Checked.

Download Pocket Killbox to your desktop, unzip it to a folder that you can find

Highlight the file with the complete path inside the Quote Box and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscoriezz.dll

  • Open Pocket Killbox
  • Go to File > Paste from clipboard
  • Set it to Delete on Reboot
  • Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
  • If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
  • Make sure Single File is selected
  • Click on the Red circle with the white X
  • It will ask you to confirm the deletion…Say yes
  • It will ask you to reboot, say yes

Run this system cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Format and make sure WordWrap is unchecked
  • Go to Edit> Select All…..Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread.
  • Please use the [external image: Posted Image] Button and not the New Topic Button

Let me know how things are running now????
hi, upon following your steps with Pocket Killbox and pressing Reboot I recieved the error message "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" The computer did not reboot. Should I reboot it myself now or leave it? What exactly does this error mean? did the process fail? Thank you for your help.
Sometimes you have to reboot on your own.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Look for this file and see if its still present, if it is, you will have to boot to safemode to delete it.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mscoriezz.dll

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

Post back with a new HJT log please.

Thanks for using Tom Coyote I will leave this thread open for you for a few days in case you have any other questions.
I just recieved a Data Execution Prevention error shutting down WinAmp. The reason I came to this forum was because I was recieving a DEP error shutting down windows Explorer every now and then. Is this nothing to worry about? Did the problem I had have nothing to do with this? If this has nothing to do with a virus, is it safe to turn DEP off for certain programs? Thanks again for helping me out.
Glad we could be of assistance. This topic is now closed. If you wish it reopened, please send us an email (Click for address) with a link to your thread.
