Run this system cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

Go to Start> All Programs> Assessories > System Tools> Disk Defragmenter. This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.

Lets run this quick program that may pick up bad files that may be hidden on your system.

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:
  • Double-click blbeta.exe
  • Then accept the agreement
  • leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked.
  • Click > scan then > next
  • You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.
  • Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Post back with the Blacklight report and let me know if any of the above helped. If Blacklight comes up clean and the above did not help than I can direct you to some windows support sites that deal with this sort of issue.
Ken, Thanks for your reply! ATF freed up a boatload. Blacklight said nothing found. Attaching Log anyway. 10/05/06 21:34:06 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.47 initialized 10/05/06 21:34:06 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 2) 10/05/06 21:34:08 [Note]: 7019 4 10/05/06 21:34:08 [Note]: 7005 0 10/05/06 21:34:36 [Note]: 7006 0 10/05/06 21:34:36 [Note]: 7011 236 10/05/06 21:34:37 [Note]: 7026 0 10/05/06 21:34:37 [Note]: 7026 0 10/05/06 21:35:41 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1020 10/05/06 21:50:19 [Note]: 2000 1012 10/05/06 21:50:33 [Note]: 7007 0 Thanks, Keith
Keith,

You have a lot starting up, it all sits in memory clogging you down. These are totally your option to stop, you need to look them all over and make your own decisions. They all can be started manully when you need them. What I would do is go into each program listed below and usually in the Preference or Options tab there will be a option to start when windows starts, you can disable them there.

The rest of your log looks fine and Blacklight came up clean.

Check for updates for Microsoft works, you can do this manually
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\WkUFind.exe

Updreg.exe is a process from Creative Technology Ltd. It is used to reminds users to register for their Creative Labs products. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\Updreg.exe

Does not need to load at boot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Checks for media like a camera or memory card
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Picasa Media Detector] C:\Program Files\Picasa2\PicasaMediaDetector.exe

This can be run from the Start> Programs> Scansoft> Ominpage
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OpwareSE2] "C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE2.0\OpwareSE2.exe"

This is part of F-Secure News Service…do you need it?
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [News Service] "C:\Program Files\Charter High-Speed Security Suite\FSGUI\ispnews.exe"

Can be run manully by going to the Control Panel > Java > Check for Updates

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe

Part of MS Money. Available via Start -> All Programs> Microsoft Money
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MoneyAgent] ""C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\Money Express.exe""

I got rid of this program and my start up time was quicker
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [swg] C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\1.0.720.3640\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe

If you remove any of this with HJT, you can always restore them if needed by opening HJT> View a list of backups and restore the ones you want
