Hey guys!

My computer has been running very slow, and I have a hijacked desktop background that says I'm infected with spyware and says to "click here" to prevent spyware attacks. I know it's obviosly fake, so I won't click it hehe.

Here is my log: Thank you for any help you can give guys, I really really appreciate it :)

Hi SAABMan and welcome to TomCoyote's forums :wavey:

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!
Open Notepad: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad.
Click on Format and ensure that Wordwrap is unchecked. If it isn't, uncheck it.

This will remove the spaces from the HJT log.

Only for Windows XP and Windows 2000

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

[external image: Posted Image]

______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

[external image: Posted Image]

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I need also a Start Up list from you

To create a Start Up list please follow this instruction

* Open HijackThis
* Click the 'Config…' button
* Click the 'Misc Tools' button
* Click 'Generate StartupList log'button
* A notepad file now automatically open with the start up list in it

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt and Start Up List from HijackThis
rapport.txt

Run HJT:

* Click Open the Misc Tools section.
* Click Open Uninstall Manager…
* Click Save list… and save it to your Desktop.
* Copy and paste the file uninstall_list.txt into your next reply.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

First download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    * Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    * Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Remove using add/remove programs:

Uninstall also Ewido. You won't need it while you have AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 which is actually updated Ewido which new owner Grisoft has given it a new name.

Disable Windows Defender's realtime protection to make fixing possible.
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click on "Tools"
  • Click on "General Settings"
  • Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
  • Uncheck "Turn on Real-time protection (recommended)"
  • Click "Save"
  • Exit the program.
Start Hijackthis, click do a system scan only, check:
O23 - Service: AVG7 Alert Manager Server (Avg7Alrt) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: AVG7 Update Service (Avg7UpdSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe (file missing)

Close all browsers and windows except Hijackthis and click fix checked.

Open notepad. Save following bolded lines as filename delete.bat (check that file type is All files (*.*)) to your desktop (if you need more help making .bat file, you can check here):
@echo off
sc stop Avg7Alrt
sc delete Avg7Alrt
sc stop Avg7UpdSvc
sc delete Avg7UpdSvc

Double-click delete.bat on your desktop to run it.

The following steps will serve as a spring clean for your PC. Not all of them will be of benefit to your PC as this is a general post, but the overall effect should be positive.

1) Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove any programs that you no longer use and then reboot your PC.

2) Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune from here and save it to your Desktop.
Double click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Check the boxes to the left of:Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Temporary Internet Files
Java Cache

The rest are optional - if you want to remove the lot, check "Select All".
Finally click Empty Selected. When you get the "Done Cleaning" message, click OK.

If you use the Firefox or Opera browsers, you can use this program as a quick way to tidy those up as well.

When you have finished, click on the Exit button in the Main menu.

For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

Please Note: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only.

3) Double click My Computer.
Right click the disc drive you wish to check.
Click Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools Tab.
Under Error-checking, click the Check Now button.
In the "Check Disc Local Disk (C: )" dialog box, check both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, and then click Start.

This will look for and attempt to repair any errors that your hard drive has.

4) Go to Start > Run, enter sfc /scannow ( note the space between the "c" and "/" ) and click on OK.

This will look for and attempt to replace any corrupt system files that can be found. There are backups of some of these files on your PC and Windows will check for a copy here first. If you are prompted to insert your Windows XP disc, do so. If you don't have this disc and are asked for it, you will have to cancel at this point.

For details on the System File Checker, click here.

5) Defragment your hard drive. A tutorial for disc defragmentation is available here.

6) Download and run StartUp Inspector.
This program will help you to decide exactly what programs you disable from running at startup.
The Readme.txt file included has instructions on how to use it.

Now we'll do online scan with Panda.
  • Please go
    HERE to
    run PandaActiveScan…

  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open…click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan
(Note: It may take a couple of minutes)

  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start
    the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected,
click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it
to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report together with a fresh hjt log.
