Looking for the outcome? Ask AI

I've been pulling my hair out and did my best to clean up my laptop, but I'm fairly certain I haven't gotten everything. I've used CounterSpy, AdAware SE, Ashampoo, Symantec Corporate…. The list goes on. Counterspy is still showing that I have the following: Krepper Trojan Downloader, Trojan.desktopHijack Trojan, Trojan-Downloader silly Trojan Downloader, Trojan.Vxgame Trojan, Jupites.B Backdoor, and Locksky.M Worm.Generic.

This morning I had what I can best describe as a voice pop-up. I turned the computer on, opened IE with MSN.com as my homepage and a recording started playing that I needed to click here and there to claim a free xbox among other things. I closed IE and the recording kept playing. The only way to stop it was to Power Down with the power button. It's only happened once. After attempts to fix a few things it's not running as slow as it was, but just sitting idle I'll get a noise that sounds like pop-ups are being blocked.

I decided it may be best to finally break down and ask for help other than make things worse.

Here is the log: THANKS!

Welcome to Tom Coyote

Just so you know for future postings, all our volunteers search for logs with ZERO replies and when you kept replying to yourself, you left that catagory, this is most likely why you were passed over. BUT we have you now
:D

This is what your up against, it would be in your best interest not to do any online banking, if you do, you need to change your passwords.

Troj/Bancban-JC steals confidential information relating to certain online banking applications by displaying fake login screens, and sends stolen information to a remote user.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

AVG bought Ewido and it may be named AVG Anti Spyware.

  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\npp\patch32.dll

Boot your computer into Safemode <– This is important
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch Ewido-Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • Ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions

If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < When it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

Post the report from Ewido and a New HJT log
I assumed as much after I made the posts. I'm patient, expecially when it comes to volunteers helping me so I figured I sit back and wait. I do my online banking on this system, but will definately stop until this is resolved as well as change the password.

I'm having some issues getting through the steps.

I was able to download, install and update Ewido Anti-Spyware and get it set up.

Next step is to run a HJT Scan Only and fix:

O16 - DPF: {5526B4C6-63D6-41A1-9783-0FABF529859A} - http://cabs.elitemediagroup.net/cabs/mediaview.cab

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\npp\patch32.dll

the 016 is already gone but when I try to fix 020 - AppInit_DLLs:……npp\patch32.dll I'm getting the following error:

An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modBackup_MakeBackup(sItem=020 - AppInit-DLLs:
C:\Windows\system32\npp\patch32.dll)
Error #5 - Invalid procedure call or argument

Please Email me at [removed], reporting the following:
*what you were trying to fix when the error occurred, if applicable
*How you can reproduce the error
*A complete HijackThis scan log, if possible

I tried running Spybot, counterspy, adaware SE in safe mode this morning and that may explain why I didn't have the 016 show up.

I'm not going to try the rest of the steps until I hear back reference the error on the HJT scan as not to change anything else. I'm also including a fresh HJT log.

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for your time and effort
Your Ewido log wasn't to bad.

Lets do this..

Make sure windows is still enabled to show all files and folders and boot into safemode.

Look for and delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\npp\svchost.exe <–If this file was in the windows\system32 folder it would be legit, but this one is a virus, so delete this file inside the npp folder only.

I would like you to go here and upload this file for analysis.
Jotti Upload Use the browse feature and browse to
C:\WINDOWS\system32\npp\patch32.dll Then click on Submit, it will give you a report, post the report into your next reply.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\npp\svchost.exe

Highlight the file with the complete path inside the Quote Box and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.
  • Open Pocket Killbox
  • Go to File > Paste from clipboard

  • Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
  • If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
  • Make sure Single File is selected
  • Click on the Red circle with the white X
  • It will ask you to confirm the deletion…Say yes
  • It will ask you to reboot, say yes

Lets hang off with patch32.dll for the moment, its a legit file but where its showing up is not good. I need to do more research on this one.

Post a new HJT log please.
You appear to be a gamer, did you download a patch from one of your game sites??

Pick at least two from this list and run the scans and post the reports.

http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

C:\WINDOWS\system32\npp\patch32.dll

Upload that file to both these sites, I need to see the report.

I'm going to do my best to keep this organized. Had a delay due to training this morning, then will be working this evening. I am a gamer, but this is my laptop and the only game I've had on here is Command and Conquer.

I downloaded "Pocket Killbox" and followed the instructions. It appeared to go through flawless, but the files are still there.

I had time to run 2 of the requested scans, results below:

I hope I kept everything seperated.
You did fine  Panda has shown us quite a bit. It looks like you may have more on this system that is bad then is appearing in your HJT log. Go to where you have HJT currently and right click on the HJT icon and rename it to analyze.exe, run the scan and post a new log.

tweber,

There are things on your computer that the fixes for are not cut and dry. Lets look into them one at a time. Panda is pointing to three infections that are not showing up on your log, there may be just bits and pieces of them leftover.

Please start by downloading VirtumondoBegone to your desktop. This needs to be run in Safemode
To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
  • Doubleclick on VirtumundoBeGone.exe and follow the instructions.
  • Do not worry if you see a BLUE SCREEN "Fatal Error" Message, it is normal and expected.
  • When it has finished, reboot and post the log that is created on your desktop called VBG.TXT in your next reply.
