Thanks!
Expert Member freeatlast has done a lot of valuable work with this one - we can try the fix she has devised - you need to be comfortable working with the registry. Don't run CWShredder or Ad-Aware whilst we are working through this.

Click here and download 'Find-All.zip'. Unzip and run the 'findall.bat' file inside. It'll run for a while and generate a file called output.txt - save this. Next, run the 'regsrch.vbs' file and enter this name into the search: ahoibaa.dll and proceed to search. It'll run for a while and generate report as well. From the report menu, select all, copy, name it as 'report.txt' and save it in the same folder.

Immediately when done click Start>run type regedit >OK

Expand this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects <– right-click that subfolder >Permissions>Advanced and un-check the 'inherit ..permissions' lower box, hit 'ok' and 'remove' on the prompts.

Next, expand this:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Filter

Search for these two subfolders (only)
text/plain
text/html

Right-click them one at a time, and un-check the 'inherit permissions' from security the same way. (If these two are not found, skip this step.)

Reboot when done, run HJT and post the log along with the 'output.txt' and report.txt' you previously saved.
Thanks Daemon, I will try this tonite when I get home from work. This thing is a nuisance. It bogs down the system so bad, I have 5-20minutes tops before I get the virtual memory is low message and the browser either freezes up or closes forcing a reboot. It also seems to either disallow access or very slow access to this forum site. Should hopefully have a post up tonite for you to review. Thanks for your time!
I'm EDT, so it's 3:55 here now. Will probably be on in about 4hrs or so Will post my results tonite. Please be patient, I'm not an expert by any means. Thanks again.
I'm GMT, so I'll have a look at it in the morning. Don't worry I'll make my instructions very clear. May be a good idea to back-up your registry as we will be modifying it, see here if you are not sure:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…id/199762382617

If the backup feature is not available on your system that is beacuse the Windows XP Backup Utility doesn't come as standard with your operating system and you won't be able to get access it using Add/Remove Windows Components either. You will have to install it manually by inserting the Windows XP disc in the drive and browsing to the following location E:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACK UP (where 'E:' is the letter of your CD drive). Double-click on the file NTBACKUP.MSI to begin the installation.
A couple of notes first. I had to run CWS as about:blank would not load any other pages and the virtual memory had the system running very slow. I also tried to run a system restore over the weekend and got this error at the end of the run "suspicious script detected: c:/windows/system32/restore/rstrui.exe" and could not complete the restore. Don't know if that's useful to you or not. Anyway, since I ran CWS, the ahoibaa.dll is not in the HJT file. Here are the HJT file and the reort.txt:

Please let me know what our next step is. I might wait awhile and run this again tonite to see if the files reappear, which is probably likely. If they do I will repost. Thanks again for your help! :)
The reason you can't run shredder is that it causes this thing to morph, I need the new .dll in the HJT log to proceed. Post a new log when it reappears.
Will run HJT again tonight after work. I appreciate your patience on this. This thing had my system practically frozen last night. Reran HJT about 1am this morning, but got the same report. Probably the first time it hasn't regenerated itself. It really restricts what I can access on the net. I guess it takes awhile to find this hidden core file that's causing the problem. Thanks again, will hopefully repost tonite
ok, this thing morphed as expected. reran hjt, findall.bat and regsrch as requested and expanded the hkey folders. here are the reports. Thanks for your assistance Daemon :)

Work though all of this in this order. Click Start>run type regedit >OK

Copy the contents of the quote box to notepad. Name as 'Fix.reg'. Save as All Files on the desktop.

Reboot, find and delete the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\eme.dll

Run findall.bat, regsrch.vbs and HJT again and post new logs from all.
getting ready to run thid delte process. How do I compltete this step: C:\WINDOWS\System32\eme.dll? Thanks, and I'll keep my fingers crossed!
Tigger5, pardon me for nosing in but I've been watching your posts because I have a similar problem and thought I'd pitch in to answer your last question as I suspect the folks here may have gone home for the night… 1. Click Start 2. Click Run 3. Type C:\Windows\System32 4. Click OK 5. When the 'System32' folder appears, look through the files until you find eme.dll, then right-click and choose delete. – sj
Thanks SJ and good luck, this thing is a living hell!
Followed your directions Daemon, and here are the logs from HJT and findall, regsrch came up empty. Guess we'll keep praying this killed it.
