All this is within the last 2 weeks… Computer has booted up twice now with just the little "-" blinking like you should type in win or something…. Had to turn off and turn back on like 3 times to get windows to actually come up.

Computer is also running very slow to open any windows…… But does not boot up slow when it decides to boot up……

All this seem to start when a teenager decide to download porn (no surprise)…. I think I have got rid of all that though….. so don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Have ran Macfee….. which seems to have to many processes to me in the tskman….
Ran clean disk, dis defrag, ewindo, and now posting hjt log….

Any help would be greatly appreciated….. :)

lets see if this will help speed it up.

Backup your Registry…
- Press "CTRL - ALT - DEL" keys all at the same time to start "Task Manager"
- In the Task Manager window click on "File", then from the drop-down menu select "New Task (Run…)"
- In the "Create New Task" window enter\type "regedit" (without quotes)
- Once Regedit opens click on the FILE menu and select Export
- Save the file as backup. Save the file somewhere you will remember and not delete.
IMPORTANT: make sure to set the export range to ALL



I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

NOTE: To be extra safe you can choose to only remove the items in RED.

OK….. did all that you said.. omgggg that was sooooooooooooo SCAREY!!! I didn't delete the green files to be safe….. so far everything seems to be working…… my control panel does.. and though I don't have new hardware/software to add the add software program opens up…….. I'm going to check a few more things to make sure they work also…. Another thing…… all the green items say stuff like : file path not found; dll not working; obsolete menu item. Which seems to me they are not in use or have never been or have been deleted…. If this is so…. should it be alright to delete them??????? omg……. mmmmmm…… ok…. I will… You all have never steered me in the wrong direction…. :) Thank you very much for that…….. How often should I run the reg cleaner thing??? Ohhhh and did my HJT log look ok?????

ok….. the computer does seem to be running faster…. and to tell ya the truth since I have done the registery cleaner thing I have not had the little pop up window thing of a ma jig that I have posted about here 2 other times……. I need to find that topic and let the one know that helped me it seems to be gone…… :) DOUBLE thank you…. I have noticed this twice…. something won't open like email …. I get a error saying memory is too low… When I close everything out…. then refresh…. it opens up and no more problems…… Thank you very much…. Always, Terri Lynne

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.


(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.


Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Unlees you use Multible Monitors, fix this one also

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

omggggggg THIS just happened…….. I was sitting here and the computer shut itself off…… Why would it do that?????

Have you had it on longer then usual? Might be heat related or the power to the outlet?
