DriverCleaner infection?

I think I have a Drivercleaner infection. I keep getting pop ups for that program and others.

I ran through the self help section and performed SPybot, Adaware and Ewido scans and removed whatever they found.

My Hijack this log is below followed by the Ewido log.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Download Pocket Killbox to your desktop, unzip it to a folder that you can find

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\irpads.dll


Highlight the file with the complete path in the Quote Box and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.
  • Open Pocket Killbox
  • Go to File > Paste from clipboard
  • Set it to Delete on Reboot
  • Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
  • If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
  • Make sure Single File is selected
  • Click on the Red circle with the white X
  • It will ask you to confirm the deletion…Say yes
  • It will ask you to reboot, say yes



Run this system cleaner
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

Hi Ken,

I've got to say I can't belive I've been dupped again. I've either got to be more careful or watch the kids more closely on my system.

I did everything you suggested with the exeption of the getting rid of the tscdropship.com from my trusted sites. That is an access for a client site I do some work for.

Print out the following instructions as you will not have Internet Access for the rest of this fix.

Boot into Safemode
To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
    this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of:

irpads.dll

once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of:

irpads.dll

under winlogon click OK.

BE SURE TO KILL ONLY THIS FILE!!!

Next double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of:

irpads.dll

then click the kill button.

BE SURE TO KILL ONLY THIS FILE!!!

Once you have done that click OK again.




Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check these and click on Fix Checked.

* Open Pocket Killbox

* Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
* If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
* Make sure Single File is selected
* Click on the Red circle with the white X
* It will ask you to confirm the deletion…Say yes
* It will ask you to reboot, say yes

I followed the instructions you gave me and could not find any instances of the irpads.dll you wanted me to seek.

I took screen shots so you can see but it looks like I can't attach them here :(

Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vunerable. Update your Java:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel > Add-Remove Programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment)

    It should have an icon next to it:

    Select it and click Remove.
  • The current version can be downloaded from Sun here:
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
    Scroll down the page to 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8 and press the Download' button. On the new web page, click the Accept License Agreement' button.
    Then select 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' in the Windows Platform
    area just below the Accept button.



You need to clean out your system restore points and create a new Restore Point

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your
system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* ClickProperties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember, You will have to be in Catagory View to see this



Run this system cleaner.
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

Hi Ken,

I just came back and while I was away my NAV ran a scan of my system and quarentined two files: ddcyabb.dll in windows/system32 and UDC6_0001_D19M1908Netinstaller.exe (drivercleaner) in windows/downloaded programs files so I am not sure I am clean.

I uninstalled my old Java and installed the new one and cleared my system restore and set a new restore point, so I guess we'll see. . .

My system seems to be running alright but some things still seem slow (like NAV loading on system start for instance).

Your log looks fine, :thumbup: but to be on the safeside since you found two files, I would like you to run Panda Active Scan, its a free online virus scanner. It won't clean anything but I need to see the report.

Nope , just found you by accident. :D


We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.



Boot into Safemode and delete this file.
c:\windows\downloaded program files\UDC6_0001_D19M1908NetInstaller.exe

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
    this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
I don't see any markers on your log for look2me but we can run this tool to make sure its all gone.


Please download ComboFix from either of these two locations

  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Run this file through Killbox, set it at Single File.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mllml.exe



The rest of your log looks good and Combofix only picked up this one file above.

Hard to say how my system is running. When I boot up it still seems really slow. What I mean is when I boot to the desk top there is a 30 second or more lag between reaching the desktop and Ewido and NAV loading into the task manger. Prior to this NAV loaded almost instantly. I don't seem to be getting the pop up telling me to buy drive cleaner and whatever other trash they are selling.

Time will tell I guess.

On my own system, I disabled the Gmail notifiier and my system loaded much quicker. Your call , I know its convenient but installing all these programs for convenience tends to bog you down.


Your call to uninstall these I would uninstall them via Add Remove programs
C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier

This sits in memory using up resources You can uninstall the program and see if it speeds things up
C:\Program Files\TheWeatherNetwork


Ewido , although one of the best programs out in cyberspace does use some resources, you will still be able to use it after the trial, you can check for updates, run scans and remove what it finds, you will just lose the background guard feature which is the system hog anyway.
