Thank you, in advance, for any help you can give me. We have been getting a lot of pop-ups, some for various spyware shields, others just a variety of ads, including some that I'd rather DIDN'T pop-up while my kids were on the computer and no, I'm not looking for that kind of companionship, thank-you very much!

I followed the self-help instructions first, running Spybot, Ad-aware, and Ewido. I've now been connected to the internet for 10 minutes without a single pop-up, which is nearly a miracle. However, better safe than sorry, so I thought I'd post my second HJT log as well. If the problems have ALL been corrected, great and terrific. Just give me the green light and I'll go ahead with the other forum instructions for making my computer more secure. If not, I'll be looking for your further instructions.

Delete the older version you are presently using.

Download VundoFix.exe to your desktop from here:

VundoFix.exe

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

1. Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
2. Click the Scan for Vundo button.
3. Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
4. If it doesn't find anything, in the main program window, choose "Add more files?".
Type the next line into the box EXACTLY AS SHOWN:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkjk.dll

Click Close Window, then Remove Vundo.

5. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
6. Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
7. When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
8. Turn your computer back on.

Post a new HijackThis! log, along with the contents of this file:

C:\vundofix.txt

into this thread.

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:
We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
Click on Tools, General Settings.
Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
Click Save

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Disable teatimer.

on the Teatimer icon in the system tray, and "Exit".

Then do what's at this page:

After we have cleaned your system, please be sure to reverse this process, and re-enable Teatimer.

Couldn't find the Teatimer icon in the systray, so I shut down Spybot altogether. Hope that worked.

Only found one instance of sys32d.exe and I ran a search three different times, even through the entire computer. With luck, maybe I got all I needed to. You tell me.

BTW, the computer is running REALLY SLOW now.

Also, I have no idea what 04-Global Startup: east.exe would be.
You're the computer expert. I turn it on and get on the internet. Did I mention my teen-age son knows more than I ever will

Alright, this is the teenage son, and I'm going to see what I can do to help… Okay, I've read the past few posts, so I thought maybe I should look for teatimer.exe in the system processes menu instead of systray, and its there. Will it cause any problems if I close it manually from the processes menu?

Teenager is gone, but available as needed. And what do you mean "can he be made available?" Think this ol' fogie can't handle it. Who do you think taught the teen-ager? Well, actually, not me. He's been in love with computers since he was abolut 6. Silly kid used to read the Microsoft windows manuals (you know, the 1 inch thick ones) for bedtime reading. I am NOT kidding. Fascination with computers only usurped by video-games, D&D, Japanese manga, and eventually girls. Still knows more than me though, probably always will. (And I'm not even close to an ol' fogie).

Now, onto the good stuff. I disabled Teatimer as per the instructions in your link. I disabled Windows Defender, as per your instructions. I closed ALL windows, including those in the systray. I ran HJT, fixed everything you said to, including the *#$%&#$ (insert frustration here)

then rebooted in safe mode, found sys32d.exe, deleted it, deleted it from the recycling bin, rebooted the computer, then ran HJT again. I took a quick look for the files I had just deleted, and noticed the above file was STILL there (or back again)! I'm sure Teatimer is off. I'm sure Defender real-time protection is off. I'm sure I exited everything I could see to exit.
