I am trying to get my computer back. For the last week it has been highjacked by popups. Any help would be appreciated. I have included a copy of the Highjack file for review.

I ran Search and Destroy and repaired.

Started in safe mode and ran report

Hello Heath and welcome to TC. :)

Please go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and check if the following program exists. Remove it if found:

SystemDoctor2006

Please disable Spyware Doctor, as it may interfere with the fix. To disable Spyware Doctor:
  • Click the Spyware Doctor icon in the System Tray.
  • Click Settings.
  • Click Startup Settings under Pick a Category.
  • Uncheck Run at Windows startup.
  • Click Apply and Exit Spyware Doctor
Once your log is clean you can re-enable Spyware Doctor.

====================================

Please download Ccleaner and save it to your desktop. Do not use it yet.
Tutorial for CCleaner
During the installation be sure to UN-check the box for "Ccleaner Yahoo Toolbar" unless you want it

=====================================

Please download Ewido AntiMalware and install it. At the end of the installation process, leave the tick in the "Run Ewido Anti-Spyware 4.0" checkbox. Click "Finish"

When opening screen appears, click "change state" for "Resident Shield" to change state to "inactive" This is done to prevent the resident shield interfering with our attempts to fix the problems present on the pc.

Ewido will automatically update, and a toolbar message balloon will confirm that update is complete. If this doesn't happen, click Update > Start Update.

Do not scan with it yet, we'll do that later in Safe Mode.

====================================

Download and run the Purity Scan uninstaller.
This is the same Purity Scan stand-alone uninstall program mentioned by Symantec under removal instructions.
Alternate link for download
1. Save the Uninstaller to your desktop.
2. Double click on the OiUninstaller.exe icon on your desktop.
3. Click on "Run".
4. Enter the four digit code that is displayed and click on "Uninstall".
5. Click on "Ok" and reboot your computer.

Graphic instructions if needed.
======================================

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
========================================

If you have an "always on" connection to the internet, physically disconnect that connection until you are finished with Safe Mode and have rebooted back into normal mode.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Look in here for
more information.

Scan with HijackThis and put a checkmark against the following entries:

O2 - BHO: SSL encrypt - {746455FE-D059-47e7-AF0E-140E03F5A447} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsz152.dll

Make sure that all browsers, applications and windows are closed, except HijackThis, and click on fix checked. Exit HijackThis but stay in Safe Mode.

=====================================

From Safe Mode, using Windows Exploerer, navigate and delete these folders if found:

C:\Program Files\PurityScan\
C:\Program Files\SystemDoctor2006
C:\program files\popupwithcast
C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\?ystem ======> The question mark in "?ystem" will most likely be a letter in Cyrillic alphabet, thus the question mark because HijackThis cannot read it. It should be in "My Documents" directory. This is not the legitimate "System" folder in Windows directory.

====================================

From Safe Mode run Ccleaner
  • Click on Options,
  • Select Advanced
  • Now UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
  • Make sure the Cleaner block on the left is selected.
  • Do not use the "Issues" block . It's meant for professionals.
  • Choose the Windows tab.
  • Check everything EXCEPT Advanced part of the Menu.
  • Click on "Analyze". This process could take a while.
  • If you don't want to loose your login passwords to certain sites, click on Options
  • Select cookies and move the ones you want to keep to the "cookies to keep" section, by highlighting and using the arrows in the middle.
  • Choose Run Cleaner.
When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished. Click Exit.
If you have more than one users, run Ccleaner for every user

=======================================

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start Ewido, and run a full scan.
  • Click on Scanner
  • Click on the Settings tab.
    • Under How to act? click on Recommended Action and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
    • Under How to scan? all boxes should be selected.
    • Under Possibly unwanted software: all boxes should be checked.
    • Under Reports: click on Automatically generate report after every scan.
    • Under What to scan? select Scan every file.
  • Click on the Scan tab.
  • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
  • Let the program scan the machine.
  • When scan has finished, at bottom of the screen click Apply all Actions.
  • Click the Save Scan Report button.
    • Click the Save Report as button.
    • Save the report to your Desktop.
  • Right-click the Ewido Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.
Reboot in Normal Mode.

NOTE: Ewido scan may need an hour.

Warning: While the scan is in progress, DO NOT open any folders or the Windows Control Panel

=========================================

Reboot in normal mode

==========================================

Run an online scan at Panda's ActiveScan
  • Please go here and perform a full system scan. (use Internet Explorer)
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
  • A new window will open…click the big Check Now button.
  • Enter your Country.
  • Enter your State/Province.

Finally, you have an older, therefore a vulnerabl version of Java. That's probably why you were infected in the first place. Please do the following to get the latest version.

Click Start>Run, type in appwiz.cpl and hit Enter. From the list
  • Remove all entries J2SE or J2SE Runtime Environment that are listed.
Now reboot your computer.
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 8.

============================================

Reboot and scan with HijackThis again. Make sure that the HijackThis log is from Normal Mode, not from Safe Modeplease. Please post back:

the fresh HijackThis log,
Ewido log
Panda scan results please, and let me know how the computer is running now.
Here is a new HijackThis log after doing your suggestions.
