Hi, I just discovered your website, so I'm new. I know you probably have far more people with problems than you have people to help them, so whenever someone gets to me, I'll appreciate any suggestions. I've attached 2 files. One is the HJT log, and the second is a screenshot of the virus I keep getting. I've followed to the letter, the symantic instructions for removing this virus, and although I put up with about a pop up per day for weeks before trying their fix, now I get 15 or so a day. Nice! I frequently run spybot, adaware, ewido and ccleaner. Finally, another weird symptom I've recently begun experiencing is the sound the computer makes when you mouse click on something, just starts happinging over and over when I'm not even touching the mouse. I've verified the mouse (usb optical) is not the reason. Not sure if this is in any way related to the Lootseek or is an entirely different problem.

Ok, I just realized that I do not see any way to attach a file, so will wait for someont to share that secret with me. Meanwhile, I will paste the HJT log after my name below…..

Thanks very much!
Mike

Hi ettevroc28

welcome to the Tom Coyote Forum.
My name is mschroe919 and I would like to help. If you still need help please reply back with a new log. Along with the new log tell me whats going on with the PC now.
The reason for a new log, explained below.

But First:

NOTICE:
Before you post a HJT log, you are running from a TEMP folder. When we use HJT to fix anything it makes a back up in case something goes wrong. In the Temp folder you can't get to the back up.
Move HJT here: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need more instructions use these:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm
Be sure to unistall the one in the temp folder.
Good luck mschroe919 and I will wait for your new log.
Hi, and thanks for helping. There is no change in how my computer is acting, because I only posted about an hour ago. Below is the new log pasted (no on mentioned a way to attach a file, so guessing pasting is the way to go, and I can't attach the screenshot of the virus, not that you need it, but…) after I did the following:
1. Created a folder called "hjt" on the C:
2. Navigated to the hijackthis.exe in c:/documents and settings/administrator/desktop/hijackthis.zip
3. clicked on the .exe and cut
4. navigated to new folder and pasted file
5. ran file from new location
6. saved log in new hjt folder

Thanks again,
Mike

Hi ettevroc28.
Welcome back to the TomCoyote Forums.
Let me suggest you copy and paste these instructions into word pad, and print it out so you can follow the steps in order.
Please read through this post since I am asking you to download specific software to assist you.

FIRST:

We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Windows Defender.

Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

NEXT:

You need to set WinXP to show all hidden and system
files.
Here is how:

* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK

NEXT:

. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
. Choose "Add or Remove Programs".
. Select 180search Assistant and click "Change/Remove Programs".
. Follow onscreen instructions.

Could be these there too
* 180 Search Assistant
* 180search Assistant
* 180searchassistant
* 180 search assistant Alert
* n-CASE
* nCASE
* ncase
* 180 Solutions
* 180solutions
* 180solutions.com
* 180 Search Agent
* msbb
* saap
* 180ax
* sais
* saie
* Zango (may not be 180 Search Assistant; may be another program from 180 Solutions)
* probably others…

Any of these remove them too.

NEXT:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Download Here:
http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

NEXT:

Run HijackThis, and press Scan, and put a check against the following entries, if they still show up. Make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis.

O3 - Toolbar: Seekmo Toolbar - {53E0B6E8-A51D-448B-B692-40B67B285543} - C:\Program Files\Seekmo Programs\Seekmo Toolbar\SeekmoTB.dll

Once you have selected this item for HJT to fix, and remember to make sure all browsers and program windows are closed except for HijackThis, then click fix checked.

NEXT:
======
CWShredder

Please download and run CWShredder Get it here:http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html

Hi there, and thanks for the tips. Before I paste the latest log, just want to inform you that I was unable to find anything in add/remove programs from the list of things. (180 search assistant, etc)

Also, when I got to the steps for downloading and running spybot and adaware se, I used the programs I had, which are the most recent. I did search for updates before running them (none found).

All steps were completed in order.

Thanks,
Mike

Use an Anti Virus Software
It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See these links for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
If you don't have one here are some of the better AV products.

Symantec/Norton Antivirus: http://www.symantec.com/nav/nav_9xnt/
Kapersky AV: http://www.kaspersky.com/buyonline.html?info=25
Nod32 : http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm
Panda AV: http://www.pandasoftware.com/
McAfee Virusscan: http://us.mcafee.com/root/package.asp?pkgid=100
AVG Anti-Virus (Free version available) http://www.grisoft.com/

Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
============================================================
NEXT:

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
If you don't have one see link below for a free firewall:

ZoneAlarm:
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/cata….jsp?lid=nav_za

Sunbelt Kerio:

================================================================================

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.

This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software

Get the download and tutorial for Spybot S&D here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial43.html
=========================================================================

Install Ad-Aware
Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. The download and tutorial on installing & using Ad-aware can be found here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial48.html

====================================================================

Install SpywareBlaster
SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
========================================================================

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
Happy surfing the net

I only ask one thing….please
Please post back and let us know what you think about our forum, we are all volunteers and would like a little smile.

Good luck Mschroe919

PS
Don't forget to enable you real time defender?
Thanks for the help, the forum is great and your steps are easy to follow. Unfortunately, my log may be clean, but my problems most certainly still exist. The Lootseek.av virus keeps popping up, and other viruses as well (I recall a trojan called "backdoor" popping up a few times since my last post to you) And the computer making that mouse click sound several times in rapid succession. What the heck is that? Anyway, none of the symptoms that caused me to seek help have been removed yet. I hope someone has further instructions to try. Mike
Hi ettevroc28,
Sorry about the problems with the pop up. The Lootseek.av virus keeps popping up.
I will go back and study your log agin, it might be hidden.I will be back shorthly.
mschroe919

PS
I see signs that you either have or had Ewido on your PC.
Do you still have it and is it the trial or paid version?
If you have the paid version go get the updates. If you don't have it at all
do this:

Download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your
desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
    and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition
    files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
    Update now
    " link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
      progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
    the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
    select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting
    your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.

    Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
    IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or
    programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
    then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
    time.
    Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
    actions
    "
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
    screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
    you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the
    results of the ewido report scan, and a new HJT log.
good luck mschroe919

Make sure your windows defender is disable till we get the new logs.
Man, you got me all worried about security and now my computer is pretty much a boat anchor. I can't even send an email! I don't know what I did, but I try to reply to an an email using outlook express like I always do, and I get "the server does not support the required http methods" What the ? is this? I'm still receiving email fine, but I can't send anything.

In addition to that, I tried some websites from my favorites folder. I can't log into youtube.com. Why? I tried to recreate my account and sure enough, it says my id is taken, so why can't I log in all of the sudden?

here is my latest log……I have not run ewido yet…..i need my email back first of all. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi ettevroc28,
Thanks for the Ewido log.

Now lets do this and we should be okay

There was some hidden brats.

We need to Run a combo fix:

* Download Combofix to your desktop.

Get it here:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/combofix.exe

Doubleclick combo.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished, it should produce a log, combofix.txt.

Post this log in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
good luck mschroe919
Hi, I didn't notice any comment on that error I got when trying to send or reply to an email in OE. Any idea what we've done that could have caused this. I have to be able to send email. It's more important than any virus or malware because it's my reason for getting on a computer.

Thanks.
Mike

Hi, It's been two days since I posted with the logs you requested. I hope you haven't given up on this problem?? The Lootseek popups have stopped, sure enough. But the mouse click (my description) noise that happens randomly and at different speeds (usually very rapidly) is driving me crazy. I did figure out the email problem. I had restricted the cookies too much. Need to find out what is causing that clicking noise. When it happens, I have to wait until it stops to actually use MY mouse to click on something, or else my mouse click just gets ignored. help?
Hi sorry I didn't give up just had a emergency. I will check it out later yonight and get back to you as soon as I can. mschroe919 We don't give up here.
