I have problems with viruses that I've been unable to solve with standard software and on line scans. The virus names that were identified by scans are BKDR HACDEF.GEN., Backdoor.Beastdoor and Troj/StartPA DW. The second problem, which may be related to one of the viruses, is that something keeps turning off the Windows Automatic Update feature.

Here is a copy of the HJT log.

Welcome to the forum :wavey:

Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.

It may not be on the desktop when you boot in "safe mode".

If you use the same user you made the log from to download it to, it will be found here:

C:\Documents and Settings\\Desktop

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
  • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the script.
  • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log
Micah, Installed SDFix and extracted the files in Safe Mode. Wehn I ran the script I received the following message FILES MISSING !! ****************** Essential Files are missing, this step will replace the files before starting Please Unzip the files to System32 when you see the option by pressing UNZIP then click OK and CLOSE then press any key to start the fixtool again.. Press any key to continue . . . A Windows screen appears titled WinZip Self Extractor - XP.exe To Unzip all files in XP.exe to the specified folder press unzip. The path is shown as C:\windows\system32 There is also a box that is checeked to overwrite the files without prompting. I stopped here because that did not seem to be something you expected based on the response.
Downloaded SDFix again and extracted the files in normal mode. I restarted the PC in Safe Mode and ran the .bat file. Result was the same as before; I received the message about missing files.
This is what I get when I download/unzip to the desktop:

Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 304E-C1B1

:scratch:

I have to leave now.

I will return in about 1.5 hours.

I will get back online when I return, and we'll sort this out.
:) :thumbup:
Micah, It doesn't list the specific files that are missing. Is there a way for me to copy the screen shot and post it here (Tried and couldn't)? If not, is there a way for me to post a Word document that includes a picture? I can send you exactly what I am seeing.
From the script:

if not exist %windir%\system32\AUTOEXEC.NT goto missing
if not exist %windir%\system32\Config.nt goto missing
if not exist %windir%\system32\Command.com goto missing

If one of those files do not exist on your machine, you get this:

echo.
echo.
echo FILES MISSING !!
echo ******************
echo.
echo.
echo.
echo Essential Files are missing, this step will replace the files before starting
echo.
echo Please Unzip the files to System32 when you see the option by pressing UNZIP
echo then click OK and CLOSE then press any key to start the fixtool again..
echo.
echo.
echo.
if [%TypeOS%]==[W2K] start Replace\W2K\W2K.exe
if [%TypeOS%]==[XP] start Replace\XP\XP.exe
pause
cls
Goto Start

I guess, just follow the directions?
:scratch:

P.S. - I apologize for being later than I said.

I had to shuffle some furniture for my daughter with my pick-up a few hours earlier than I thought.
:oops:

A Windows screen appears titled WinZip Self Extractor - XP.exe
To Unzip all files in XP.exe to the specified folder press unzip.
The path is shown as C:\windows\system32
There is also a box that is checeked to overwrite the files without prompting.

Let it unzip, but don't let it overwrite anything already there.

Does that help?
:unsure:
My instinct tells me it's one of these:

%windir%\system32\AUTOEXEC.NT
%windir%\system32\Config.nt

I have a "Plan B" for replacing them, if necessary.
Micah, I have to run out for a few hours - soccer game today. I'll try this later and give you an update; probably won't be until 5:00 or sol.
