welcome to the Tom Coyote Forum. Sorry about the delay, we have been very busy. And can't get to all the logs as soon as we like.
My name is mschroe919 and I would like to help. If you still need help please reply back with a new log. Along with the new log tell me whats going on with the PC now.

NOTICE:
Before you post a HJT log, you are running from a TEMP folder. When we use HJT to fix anything it makes a back up in case something goes wrong. In the Temp folder you can't get to the back up.
Move HJT here: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need more instructions use these:

Make sure you uninstall the one and the location of the one you have. Then get new one .

Basically I downloaded a video codec I thought I needed to play some video files, and immediately upon downloading I realized it was spyware. It keeps giving me Windows Security messages in the bottom right hand corner saying I have all of these problems, etc. There are also some random pop-ups as well.

You still have HijackThis.exe in a temp folder?

C:\DOCUME~1\PAULHO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 2 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe

Did you see this in my last post to you?


NOTICE:
Before you post a HJT log, you are running from a TEMP folder. When we use HJT to fix anything it makes a back up in case something goes wrong. In the Temp folder you can't get to the back up.
Move HJT here: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need more instructions use these:

I have read your log. Let me suggest you copy and paste these instructions into word pad, and print it out so you can follow the steps in order.
Please read through this post since I am asking you to download specific software to assist you.

FIRST:

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

NEXT:

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd

Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

NEXT:
Reboot to normal mode.

First:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Download Here:

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.


NEXT:


First download ewido anti-spyware from HERE:
http://www.ewido.net/en/
and save that file to your
desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

1. Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
2. Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition
files.
3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
Update now" link.
* Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
progress bar will show the updates being installed.
4. Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
select "Quarantine".
6. Under "Reports"
* Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
* Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly..

NEXT:

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

while in safe mode:

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.


Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

The tool also checks if a relevant file, wininet.dll, is infected.
You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found).
Replace infected file? Answer Y (yes) and hit Enter to restore a clean file.
Restart the computer to complete the removal process.

The SmitFraudFix report is located at C:\rapport.txt

Now, once again, restart the computer in Safe Mode.

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start Ewido, and run a full scan.

* Click on Scanner
* Click on Settings
o Under How to scan all boxes should be checked
o Under Unwanted Software all boxes should be checked
o Under What to scan select Scan every file
o Click on Ok
* Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
* Let the program scan the machine.

If Ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says Perform action on all infections and put a checkmark in the box next to Create encrypted backup, then choose clean and click Ok.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save Report.

* Click Save Report button
* Save the report to your Desktop

Close Ewido and Reboot

NEXT:
Run another HijackThislog. and post it with the report from option 2 of the SmitfraudFixC:\rapport.txt
and the Ewido log

Thanks for the Ewido log. Just wanted to check again.
All that was found was tracking cookies, if you run the ATF cleaner again they should go away.

Your log looks clean as of now.
so I will give you some good things to do to keep you and your PC happy.

This is my all clean speech.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Note you may have some of theses programs allready, if so just a reminder to keep updated.

FIRST:
You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.

Thanks for all of the hard work and the help, it is greatly appreciated. I have really enjoyed the site thus far and I will certainly continue to use it in the future. I do have one more, minor problem, however. Ever since the spyware it, I always get an application error message when my computer boots up. It reads, exactly, as following: "AutoUpdate.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application." How do I fix this?
