Hello,
Just struggling with this little beast and trying to clean it out -
Please take a minute to review my log and advise…
Norton has identified this as the culprit but cannot access or remove file??

****
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: \\?\C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpt6.fnu
****

I think I have some other things going here behind the scenes as well…
I also get an error on shutdown that refers to a problem with my wacom tablet driver ??

Much gratitude in advance…
Thank you
Chris

Welcome to the forum :wavey:

Copy and paste the contents of the quote box below into notepad.

Save it as file name: "fixme.reg" (not including the quotes). Save as file type: *All files* and save it on your Desktop.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=""

Disable Microsoft Windows Defender:
We need to disable your Microsoft Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft Windows Defender. Click Start, Programs, Windows Defender
  • Click on Tools, General Settings.
  • Under Real-time protection options, unselect the Turn on real-time protection check box
  • Click Save
After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Download Killbox from here:

Killbox.zip © Option^Explicit

Unzip it, but don't run it yet.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = :0

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {188DF0B5-EB51-8744-4593-23CEE69F4328} - (no file)

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Then, locate fixme.reg on your desktop and it.

You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".

Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Now, run Killbox.

In Killbox select "Delete on Reboot".

Paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\lpt6.fnu

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

When the machine reboots, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
Thank you so much for your response…
I have followed the instructions…
Symantec Virus alert dialog box still apprearing…

please take a look…
let me know what to do next…

Thx
Chris

Micah Thank You sooo much - I have installed a bunch of programs in this process… so I want to clean up some things… and I will run a local anti virus and adware scan and see what comes of it - Ill post the findings and see if this is finally resolved… yea chris
Micah

Thanks for your patience –
and of course for lifting me from the hellfire –
If I could bother you one last time to help me set things straight….

In efforts to resolve these problems I currently have bought or have installed these tools:

Windows Defender
Norton Systemworks
Spybot
Killbox
CCleaner
Ewido
Deldomains
Smitrem
Prevx
Avenger
& Hijack This

I just ran

Ewido
Spybot and
Norton Systemworks
(I haven't run the Norton anti-virus as it was clean yesterday except for the nasty trojan)
and I reset Windows Defender to protect…

summary:
1. Ewido cleaned some cookies that were tracking… good…(Report below)
2. Spybot reports 3 problems with the 'active desktop' that are unfixable??…(report below)
and
3. Norton has a program integrity issue with a missing dll called mscoree.dll??…also unfixable??(dont know what it is??)

I have heard that if you dont need ewido it should be uninstalled as it eats up resources??
What if anything would you advise to keep, buy install or unistall ??

1. Excellent.

2. If your desktop isn't "hijacked", no need to worry.

3. Copy the text in the following quote box into Notepad:

cd c:\windows
dir mscoree.* /s > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Save it to your desktop as ff.bat

CLOSE NOTEPAD!!!

Now, the ff.bat file on the desktop. A Notepad window will open up.

Please paste it's contents into your next post.
